Hm, strange engine SH3...
replaced values for all Axis ships to negative renown. Still, when torpedoeing a nice fat Axis BB lying at anchor in Kiel, got a tremendous 150000 + renown for it ? anyone know why ? :hmm: here are the values I used: http://users.telenet.be/tacqi2/temp/renown.txt thx PS (sorry BBW, couldn't resist ![]() ![]()

Vague math memories from 40 years ago: Doesn't a negative number added to another negative number equal a positive number?
ie: -reknown + -1(from basic.cfg -1 for sinking axis)=+reknown Or the other value "wrong ship sunk=-5000" zz |

Two wrongs don't make a right, adding 2 negative numbers don't make a positive. Multiplying them do.
As for your problem, let me look into it, I think it happened to me once before. EDIT: All I can think of is there is a multiplier somewhere there that makes it negative. You may not want to have the Sloops etc. as zero, as if there is a multiplier, it could zero your renown. |

Since the axis is defined in the defside.cfg file, changeing to a negative value
would GIVE you renown wouldn't it? Try increaseing renown to get a bigger slap on the wrist! OOOH! I got a new look! Least it ain't the funky white cap! Now I got to go get a copy of ....... Y M C A!!!! Last edited by Madox58; 01-24-07 at 11:59 PM. |

basic.cfg or one of the other cfg files has a multiplyer for reknown. Allies is 1,axis is -10 and neutral is -1 or something to that, can't really remember. So,if you shoot a hospital ship for example,by the earlier figure,it would be 10000 * -1 = -10000 reknown. However, with your new values, -5500 * -1 = 5500 reknown.

Yes, basic.cfg has this:
[RENOWN] RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500 RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200 CompletedPatrol=100 NEUTRAL=-1 ALLIED=1 AXIS=-10 WrongShipSunk=-5000 FirstRankRenown=1000 SecondRankRenown=3500 EndCampaign=-5000 Good spot there gamers2000!!! |

Yes, I was having this EXACT conversation with BBW this morning (and it's been raised a few times before).
Basically, ALL ship renown in the cfg files should be positive. The renown multiplier stored in Basic.cfg determines whether you gain or lose based on the nationality of the ship. |

Allright,:hmm: I wasn't aware of the multiplicator so this is what happened... Good, good, now I get a more clear view why shooting the Deutschland gave me a 150.000 + renown.
I will change the values back to positive numbers. However, the "NIL" values for some boats should not pose a problem. As I understand correctly: (0*1)+(0*1)=0 This could mathematically not pose a problem, we are NOT dividing by zero here, so normally this should not CTD the game. - Let me all explain to you why I chose some nil values in the first place: IMO, shooting defenseless sailboats/junks is unsporty and something a respectable U-boat gentleman would not do. (This comes close to sinking hospital ships or lifeboats). So no renown for shooting an Allied schooner/sailship on its weekend trip. Now as for the other values Axis ships: I don't think it would matter to BdU if you sank a common Soldati destroyer or the Bismarck, your career would be down the toilet anyways. So why bother giving different values to the Axis ships ? ![]() RAF High Speed Sea Launch: This ship is armed, although it is a rescue ship, so could be a topic of discussion here. If you happen to cross one ingame, it will shoot at you, and redirect more heavy firepower on you, maybe a renown of "nil" or -100 is the right option here. Corrected : I took a look in the eqp file: it's unarmed And then remain some other values that I changed which won't make a difference since they are Allied anyway. Two more questions I have for you ppl: Does anyone know what the wrongshipsunk=-5000 means for sure ? I guess it adds another -5000 to the score, but I could be wrong here, as I proved yesterday. Is there a specific reason why the renown for Axis is -10 instead of -1 and then having a value of 1700 for the Bismarck instead of 17000 in that specific ship's config file ? (does this have something to do with the fact if that particular BB should change sides ? like with italy) that you suddenly don't get 15000 renown for sinking the BB Roma when italy capitulates but only 1500 (1*1500) but get a -10*1500 for sinking her on the axis side ?

I'll guess wrong ship sunk may mean that if you are assigned to sink ship A
in a mission and you f**k up and sink B, you get a Nun slap? |

It may be a single mission thing?
Like where you are to sink a certain ship but you sink another? This is just a guess on my part. I'm sure when BBW drags his arse outta bed he'll clear this up. :rotfl: :rotfl: |

Oiii
My @ss has been outa bed for hours Work and all that :rotfl: Ok Jaeson as we were discussing yesterday - it seems the multiplier does work So the Hosp ship needs to be a normal renown not a minus And so do all the other ships The reason the Axis renown is so high IMHO is so you will get hurt bigtime by renown loss for sinking an axis ship In RL your @ss would have been keelhauled if you sunk one of the Kreigsmarine As for the wrong ship sunk Single missions can give you objectives such as sink a class of ship or type No renown is lost for sinking something else - unless its friendly or neutral So to sum up I have no idea :rotfl: And no Single missions arent linked to a career They are just that - single |
