Default What they did AFTER the war......

Was snooping around the web today at work and thought I'd post the pics of the Das Boot crew I found. I wish I could say they are recent, and although some definitely are in the last couple of years I can't say the same about the rest. Anyhoo, here are the mugshots of Das Crew

http://www.thecelestineprophecymovie...t_prochnow.jpg -The Old Man

http://www.juring.de/hubertus-bengsch-und-olli.jpg - The Hitler Youth Leader (on the right)

http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,31402,00.jpg - The Chief

http://www.theateranderkoe.de/typo3t...8d059cafea.jpg - MR.U-Boot Special cocktail

http://www.bbv-net.de/layout/showbil...gronemeyer.jpg - Lt.Werner

http://tvtotal.prosieben.de/imperia/...lf_richter.jpg - Frenssen

http://gfx.filmweb.pl/p/9327/po.87200.jpg - Johan

I tried finding pics of Pilgrim, Lumprecht, Kriechbaum and Ullman among others but no dice. Maybe they didn't make it as big as some of the others. Herbert Gronemeyer aka Lt Werner is a very big singer/musician in Germany, Ralf Richter aka Frenssen is a fairly successful actor in his native homeland, as are Erwin Leder aka Johan and Martin Semmelrogge aka Mr U-boat Special Cocktail. Neat eh? I didn't recognise some of them at first! Enjoy guys.

Nice find! I knew most of them, but how about that Johan! He went from the baboon-look to shiny sphere

Thinking about the Beerfest thread... there are quite some Das Boot inside jokes in Beerfest

Well, they're mostly subtle, small language goofs, for one, this:

...plays a prominent role in the films finale...

It's called Das Boot :rotfl:

Another one is during a scene in a... submarine.
From the goofs at the Beerfest page at www.imdb.com: Jürgen Prochnow makes a comment about how he "had a bad experience in one of these before" when in the submarine. This obviously refers to Boot, Das (1981).

They have changed quite much, but the movie is of course 25 years old.

In Poland we have a drink that's quite popular among students (however the really most popular is the "mad dog" one). The drink is just a glass of beer (that half a liter kind of them). Before you start drinking it, you drop a small (100 ml is max) glass of vodka (40% up to 95% alcohol) into the beer glass, so that if falls slowly on the bottom, but the vodka does not mess with the beer.

And you start drinking. The more you drink, the less the beer is still beer, and the more it becomes vodka. Marvellous.

And that drink name is: "U-boot".

PS And we call it "u-boot", in German, not in Polish (it would then sound "okrêt podwodny" and that's a bit too long for a drink name. One would have trouble trying to spell that after having a few u-boots...).

Thanks!
The word "crew" is also used in modern German and normally uses the article "Die". So it's "die Crew"

Grönemeyer is a big shot in German music and also sang the official song of the Soccer World Cup 2006. Unfortunately he gave up acting, which I think is a pity since I think he's fairly good at it

Very apt in a sad sense when you consider the level of casualties they suffered during the war

I think the crewman called 'pilgrim' commited suicide not long before the release of 'Das Boot'. From what I remember his war time experiences had a very long term effect on him.
