Default Does This Have Anything To Do With The Blind W.O. ???

I have always been baffeled by the W.O. that sees a ship at 16 km on a clear, dark night but cant see a very defined ship in the fog and rain at 500 meters.

Then I noticed something that maybe somebody can investigate further.

I was in a Type IIA when I noticed this but I think it happens in all types. Whenever my watch crew is in thier rain gear (sou' westers) my watch officer will not rotate and scan the whole horizon. He just sits there and looks out to 090. He only does this when he is in his rain gear. When he is not in rain gear he will scan a circle 360 degrees around then reverse direction.

I am not positive but I think that whenever I notice that he is acting "blind" to the ship in the fog that I can plainly see there is always some sort of precipitation and he does not rotate. When there is no precipitation (or more specifically, when he is not in rain gear because sometimes the weather report says precipitaion = none but I can see it is still raining) he rotates and spots the ships.

Does anyone want to test this? Maybe this is a start to fixing the W.O. by not EVER letting him switch into rain gear so he will always rotate??

Even when my watch crew are in 'rain gear' they rotate. Although, I will admit they are painfully unaware of any visable ships.

I have a feeling this may well be hardcoded because I can see no reason why this has not been addressed before.

Okay...

I just had a Watch Officer in heavy fog NOT in rain gear call out a ship comming out of the fog at 600 meters.

Now I, myself, saw the same ship about 1 minute before my watch officer did. Not great but at least he is not completely blind.

But to recaap...he was not in rain gear and he was rotating.

Has anyone else noticed the watch officer NOT rotating in rain gear?

I doubt the game uses the WO direction to what it can/can't see, it's governed by an algorithm that takes into account light (time of day actually), fog (not visibility, which only an eye can distinguish if a ship is visible or not), watch crew experience (which I think is stupid, you don't need to be a vet to see a ship)

No one else can report if the Watch Officer rotates around while wearing rain gear?

It happens to me every now and then both in NYGM and GWX and both with nice weather or bad weather, I think it's more in relation with what compartment he comes from inside the boat. Solution is to take him back down and back up and he will start scanning again.

Just tested it with my last mission tonight.
Indeed that officer with his raincoat on keeps stairing at i think 90o.
But when i go to the map and go back he is rotating.

Very strange.
