Default Cargo ship adrift in North Sea

A cargo ship carrying over 4000 tonnes of fertilizer is adrift in the North Sea, in a force 10 gale, and is heading for one of the gas rigs

A collision like that doesn't bear thinking about, the RAF say that if they have to lift the crew from the ship then it will be very difficult - most of the crew on the rig have already been lifted off.

Aaagh! Fertilizer!! I didn't read that bit!!

Hoi boy...let's hope to any diety you prefer that the two don't meet. I'll probably hear it if they do!

EDIT: Update: It avoided the gas rig...but is now on course for an unmanned platform.

Apparently this isn;t the first time the ship has been involved in a collision.

2 things that really tense me up... a ship adrift... and a truck driver asleep at the wheel... ... I have experienced both.

Default Drifting Freighter

Looks like she missed the second one as well now. Good luck, I guess.

I wouldn't worry too much about fertilizer explosions. Not every fertilizer explodes well, and even the type that does will not detonate easily from a collision, unless it's already on fire which may make it more sensitive.

Aaah, wasn't too sure about that, I haven't really read up on fertilizer as an explosive component, just that these days whenever you hear fertilizer on the television it's usually followed by the words Home-made bomb and Terrorist plot.

Either that, or you've tuned into the farming channel....
