Hydrophone training

On the download page one creative person mad a mode for using the Hydrophone to fire a torpedo. I am tired of the big D's harassing me so I downloaded the mod.

Question ...What is the max depth that you can fire a torpedo? Have any of you fired a torpedo while submerged if so how and how did it go? Any recommendations on getting these rascalls?

I think it´s 25m, but why don´t you just try it out?

Firing a torp according to the hydrophone was not done in reality. US skippers were trained to do that but in the war they quickly found out that it doesn´t work...

This is WW2, you know...

Yeah, but it could be very handy with an acoustic homing torpedo, whatever they are called...

German skippers in the XXI boats where trained to fire blind. The XXI has very sensitive hydrophones and can fire from 50m depth for this reason.

I've tried it and with help from the active sonar it is very possible. It would be simple with a homing torp!

*edit* of course no XXI boats saw combat so we will never know how effective it would have been.

Yes, but no XXI saw real battle action, so we don´t now if it had worked anyway. By the way, Padfield (War beneath the sea) mentions one successful sonar attack done by a US skipper. He also says that this was most probably the ONLY SUCCESSFULL BLIND SONAR ATTACK in the war that is known.
