Default So where are all the BIG ships?

I've played SHIII for 5 months now and in the campaign I've never seen anything too big very often. I'm using GWX at the moment and I'm dying to find some of the big boys, the large battleships and carriers. I've never seen any yet Any advice please?

Well, you could sneak in to harbors.

Big ships out at sea move fast. 25knts is not rare. They also avoid places where subs might be. Thes best time to see them is late '44 or early '45.

ive been playing SH3 since it came out and Ive only once seen a enemy BB at sea and it was too far away to shoot.

Yep I concur early war you can either find them in convoys or in harbours,in late 44 or 45 they can be seen sometimes lurking about,I took out a TF last night 1BB,2 Carriers, which was escorted by about 12 DD's but that was of the NW coast of Austrailia.

Task Forces: In GW1.1a I found a number of them coming in and out, South of Ireland. There are lots of other places. If you have map updates on, you'll see a number of them pop up on the Nav Map. But they're moving fast, so you'll need a little luck and timing to intercept.

I finally sunk my first BB last night.

I received a contact report for a convoy a few hours from my position and decided to go take a gander at it. It was foggy as hell, so I manned the hydrophones myself to track the group, because the scopes were pretty useless over a few hundred meters. I was able to line myself up to pass through the convoy head on.

As I was able to finally catch a glimpse of a ship through the O-scope, I took some readings and adjusted to 90deg off of the path...preset my TDC and waited for the next ship in the line to pass through.

I almost jumped outta my seat as there it was, The Rodney...in the middle of the convoy. I knew that contact sounded much different that anything else I've ever encountered.

I quickly set up for salvo at the keel, and a salvo for impact at about 4-1/2 meters...I wasn't taking any chances, because once she passed there was no way I could catch back up with her.

All four made contact and crippled her.

I quickly spun the scope aft and took a shot at a passing merchant with my aft tube, breaking it in two. I immediately went deep and snuck out the back of the convoy with no pursuers. My heart was actually racing as I was so scared that the little warships were going to come rushing in and spoil my party.

I just closed out that patrol this morning with 64k tons sunk...36 of 'em due to the BB. Feels good.
