It is totally diffrent game playing at 1x...Once in a while I will do 1X patrol ussally when my assigned grid isn't a million miles away.Or when a new mod comes out. Some tips for the 1x player!
1. patiance 2. sh3 works and runs great in the background surfin and run the game 3.put the volume up when walkin away from your pc((yes the mad dash from the toilet happens even at 1x)) 4.watch tv with the volume a bit lower 5.Its far more exciting when you finnally do bump into somthing sound checks are 10 times more important I look at sh3 like this... tc all day to sink 1 ship or 1x and maybe sink a ship If you never tryed no tc its definately worth it--- Have a great day ![]() |

The first time I played SH3, on my first patrol I played 1x.
I started in Norway and sailed to Scapa Flow all on 1x. On the return trip though I caved and cranked up the TC. Then when GWX first came out. I played 1x until I was out of the harbor and in open water. Watching harbor traffic and planes and all that. EDIT: Hmm, and infact this talk about 1x patroling brings to mind an old PC Gamer article I read... oh I'd guess a couple months after the game came out. It was in the Sim Column, written by Andy Mahood, a SH3 fan, and was talking about some guy who detailed a whole 1x patrol and made updates in real time. How he just took like a week off of work and played the game the whole time. Wonder if his account is still around... Last edited by Cpt. Stewker; 12-21-06 at 04:16 PM. |

The highest I go is 32x. No further because well, do to time constraints off work playing 1x would be very difficult. However some nights I do 1x if time allows and just cruise on the conning tower hoping something will happen.

a good 1x starter is to set in folder sh3/data/cfg/main enemy detected to 1x ((the one in "my documents")) this will keep you at 1x when any enemy is spotted and/or till they dissapear

I can see your point but number 1 is the BIG problem for me = PATIENCE ! I just don't have any; I can't even sit for 90 minutes and watch a Film on the Gogglebox.
In my heart, I know that if I'd been a U-Boat Kapitan in real life, my lack of patience would have sent me and my Crew to the bottom. |

The good thing about a sim like SH3 is that you don't have to sit there all the time. It can run in the background while you're doing something else, as long as you can hear when your presence is urgently needed...

you gotta be quick sometimes. Similar problems on calm seas when you finally spot a DD. They may already know where you are. |

For some reason I cannot task switch out of SH3. Just basically pauses the game and screen starts flickering. CTRL-ALT-DEL will not even do it.

@FongFongFong
Similarly, ship spotted takes you down to 8. The worst bit is when you get the Convoy message and you're running at, say, 256 .. by the time you've gone down to 1, an hour and a half has gone by ! |
