Default Docking and Resupply

I would like some help on resupply please. I play GWX. I was a week or so out of wilhelmshaven when I happened upon a fat convoy. I sank about 30000 tons and spent all but one fish. Now, for the question part. I was under the impression that one could dock at a friendly base to refuel and restock torps to continue ones mission to their patrol zone fully reloaded? I stopped off at a Spanish port (forget the name) and all it would let me do is return to base and end the patrol. Am I missing something? Please Help!

You can only do that if the neutral port has a german resupply sub there. When you look at the Nav Map close enough, you'll see where they are. Of course later in the war, there are few to find.

I'm in 1939. Are they there that early? Because I never noticed them before. What do they look like on the Nav Map? I'm sorry, I'm just really confused. Also, can you stop at any German port other than home base to resupply?

There are none in 1939. Two will become available in January of 1940.

Look at your resupply info by clicking F1 and you will see all and when. There will also be some Milk Cows available in 1942 as well.

Thank you so much; I understand now. So, basically I have to end my patrol after using all the fish until resupply ships become available?

Using up your fish is irrelevent. You wouldn't necessarily have to end a patrol if the dates become available while you were out to sea. When you get to those dates in time, they will automatically become available in the game.

I get that part now. What I mean is Until Jan of '40 rolls around I have no other options except to end the current patrol and start the next one from home port?

Sorry if I am aggravating you

Correct. Going to resupply no matter how you do it, is like docking at port, except when you resupply out to sea, you need to be closer.

25k for ports and I think someone said within 5k for Milk Cows. So when you get close enough, hit escape and if you are given the option to dock at that particular location, you're good to go. If you just click "Return to Port" you will go back to port of departure no matter where you are, but you lose gained renown.

Ok. So what is the purpose of the resupply concept if you can't continue an existing patrol? I imagine that you have to spend 28 days in port (or resupply) regardless? I thought that was the reason for resupply--to cut down on wasted time during career?

I would suggest using the mod "SH3 Commander 2.7". It gives you the option of changing the amount of time at port, as well as lots of other goodies. It's a must have mod really.

See this thread. And don't forget to look at it's documentation (readme). http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=101815

if you like a little realism
the cows allow you to get fuel.

So you actually can return to port.

Now I'm confused.

I currently have orders to patrol ED99. There's a resupply ship in the Canary Islands and I was planning to hit this ship on the way there (by the time I finish with this convoy I'm tracking I'll definitely be out of torps).

I'd hoped to stock up with fuel and weapons and then continue to my assigned grid square.

What will actually happen after I've docked with the ship? Will it end the patrol and then the next patrol I'll be back in Lorient? Or will it end the patrol and I'll start a new one from my position in the Canarys? Or (what I'd like) will I be on the same patrol, stocked up and good to go to ED99 as per my current orders?

your patrol ends and you are at the cow.
you get fresh fuel and torps and no assigned grid square.
