Default Yaaaarrrggghhh!!!!

I'm shaking of anger!!!!!!!!! I just had the most tense moment in my entire SHIII career, and it just ends!!!!! Not in a glorius explosion, but to CTD!!!!!!!!

I was playing GWX (what else?) and on my career in october 1940, I was heading for Lorient from Wilhemshaven by taking the route around the british isles. While passing through the waters around Scapa Wlow I noticed a higher DD traffic than what I was used to, but I only dived to periscope depth every time my exellent crew spotted anything. Then, on October 13th, at around 11. o' clock, I got suprised by a Hunt Destroyer (it was brought daylight and calm seas, looks like Bernard had taken over my entire watchcrew). The Hunter became the hunted, when the DD started shelling me with heavy guns, so I crash-dived. This was just north of Scotland.

Then it began. This british captain was good. He was VERY good. It didn't matter how many times I changed the course, depth or speed on my sub, he found me over and over again, dropping depth charges all over the area. It was a miracle that I never got hit. This went on for a long time, while I was lowering my depth all the time. I think the max depth in this area was 120, so I was in trouble.

Then suddenly I noticed that he stopped shelling me with those bloody barrels, and I wondered why, since I could hear "the enemy is pining us sir!" over and over again. I watched on the outside view, and I was suprised when I noticed that he went on in a circle right over me, speeding up and down, but didn't drop anything. Then I understood: He had used EVERY SINGLE DEPTHCHARGE ON HIS SHIP to destroy me.:rotfl: :rotfl: I was relieved, but annoyed. I put on Flank speed, but he followed me, so the max time ac. was 8x. so I couldn't basically go anywere 'cause he followed me. Then I got a daring plan.

I ordered periscope depth, and after a while I got up there near the surface.
He noticed of course, and went for a ramming attack, I let him come, since that was a part of my plan. He hit my conning tower, but no real damage was left on my sub. After getting up in position again, I pulled up my periscope, choosed him as the target, ordered the WO to solve an attack plan for my first torpedo, when he was done within seconds, I ordered fire. The torpedo missed my a meter or two. I ordered second torpedo fire when.......

"Silent Hunter III has discovered a failure and will have to be shut down etc............"

I almost threw the bloody screen out my window.....

If you haven't done it in a few days since all the uninstalling and installing you've been doing, and now since your game crashed, I suggest you clean up your computer and do a defrag and cross your fingers for next time.

but your story did sound fun, if that's the right word to use.

The probelm is that you run out of lives before they run out of charges

Yes they do run out
They carry around 200 or so
Trouble is they dont bugger off when they run out
They still keep you pinned down

What lesson and why for everyone here? It is well know that DDs can run out of charges and it is easy to calculate how many charges each of DDs carries. F.e. in stock version, it is 40 charges per rack/K-gun. Some people count charges during DC-ing to know when it is relatively safe to engage the DD (provided the player survives).
