Do these ships really have ammo bunkers?

I am using GWX 1.02, and am working on a recognition manual mod that highlights the "sweet spots" -- excluding the keel and propulsion sections. I've been looking through the ship config files located within the folders at this location:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sea\

I was surprised to find that, under the [2DCompartments] heading, the following eight ships have been given ammo bunkers (the bunkers are shown at the extreme fore and aft):

NCHT (Passenger Liner)

NCVW (Whale Factory Ship)

NECT (Medium Tanker)

NHSL (Hospital Ship)

NKGN (Large Merchant)

NLOL (Passenger Liner)

NPTL (Passenger/Cargo)

NPTR (Heavy Transport)

I set up a simple mission with a sitting duck Whale Factory Ship and hit the bunkers with a couple of torps. I never did get any phenomenal explosions, though the ship did slowly fill with water and go down.

So... I'm wondering...

Even though the config files indicate ammo bunkers for the above vessels, are the bunkers for these ships actually ignored by the game engine?
