Default Is it possible to settle one's sub on the sea bed?

If not... why not? And can it be modded?

I think it cannot be done. If I remember correctly this part is hardcoded and cannot be modded.

Way back there was a discussion about it. Some told they managed to do that. It was described how but I do not remember now.

You can do it but there is no real advantage to doing so as the escort sensors will still pick you up as the seabed is flat. The way to go os slow and shallow dive. 1kt or less will stop you breaking the sub up. Also don't do it in shallow water in rough weather or you've bget bounced and cause damage.

In my last patrol I did it.

Was really badly banged up, the boat dropped to the bottom at about 169m, on the floor in the western approaches, and the DDs dropped a ton of cans around me, but didn't hit me again. It took forever to fix all of my damage, and stop the leaks, including pump the water out. After a hour or so, and two dead electrics, the boat slowly rose to the surface, and the dds were gone.

when i hit the bottom, it claimed that I damaged the boat again, but since the whole bloody thing was yellow anyway, I couldn't tell if I was any worse, but my hull just stayed at 66 percent.

really cool, just like in Das Boot, but much shallower.

It is certainly possible to do. The only disadvantage is since you are so close to the seabead (land), only 1x time is allowed unless you use SH commander to allow time compression near land.

I do it all the time.... stalking a port etc. I settle the boys down for some rest on the sea floor and on twlight i order for scope depth... it may have no real outcome on the game or if a destoryer passed by it would most proberly sense me....but it makes me feel like a proper captain in doing some limit tactics... anyway this is what Prien did in real life so im doing the bloody same.

Heh..yeah, actually Prien got stuck in the mud while moving forward at one point, the depth was much shallower than expected, after some reversing and thrusting (something like ur car being stuck in mud) ,he managed to push forward.... lucky.

Yep that that he did Tachyon. But surely we can forgive and not laugh at the one man who at a young age breeched the defences of Scapa Flow and unleash hell. A little bit of mud shouldent stick on him, I wonder who the young crew member was that blurted out whilst slamming down beer in the club, that his captain (Prien) got stuck in the mud. I wonder if Bernard was part of the crew....yep blame that bastard !

Can def be done but as pointed out earlier you get no advantage over your persuers from it...in fact if you are still moving at the time it is probable you will incur some damage

Seems to me that the DC's are more accurate when you're languishing at the bottom, stuck or otherwise.

The quickest way to settle the boat on the ocean floor is have the DC send you there. It will stay settled for decades.:rotfl:

when i was resting on the bottom it was very shallow, and i wasn't moving, my keel was about 6 inches in the mud with my boat at about a 10 degree slant up to the nose,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,very cool to see this
