Default Ulven reporting for duty!

Ahoy!

I've been hanging around this fine forum since June (bought SH III in May) and coming to the conclusion that this is one of the (if not the) friendliest and most helpful forums has really helped me in the desiscion to join! There just was no reason left not to!

This is certainly a fantastic game and from what I hear, installing a supermod will make it even better. My interest in submarine warfare was founded when I first played Aces Of The Deep. Being only 10 years old when I first played it, I was stuck for life. I also have some experience from SH I, but after that my interest calmed down. When I got the chance to buy SH III for 99 SEK (about €11) I just had to take it, and I don't regret it a second. It got even better when a friend of mine got to do his military service as a sonar operator in the Swedish navy, he's served on HMS Gotland, currently clashing with the US Pacific Navy in anti-submarine drills being stationed in San Diego. Boy, I wish I could take his place sometimes...

Currently playing vanilla, I've been following the discussion about the coming GWX and have worked out a plan. I'll finish my carreer and then install GW to hopefully be able to appreciate it enough before installing GWX. I could, ofcourse, install GW now, but being a stubborn idiot can be frustrating, hopefully I will ram my VIIb into the ocean floor soon, so that I can join the fellowship of GW. Judging by this picture, it shouldn't be very long...

Bernard insisted that I surfaced, he was going on about his sensitive skin needing fresh air, so without thinking I finally gave in to his nagging and I was immediately assaulted by 12 Sunderlands! They got in a few good hits and an incoming destroyer made me think I was done for. Fortunately my damage control crew got the flooding under control before I plunged too deep and the destroyer was never really got me fixed. In the panic and crash diving this was the only pic I managed to take. Has this ever happened to any one of you guys? 12 Sunderlands! It can't be right, right?

Anyway, I hope to be able to contribute to this forum. I will certainly ask a few questions and help keeping the mood up!

By the way, my name deserves an explanation. Ulven (meaning 'The Wolf', a very old word, dating as far back as the viking ages) was a Swedish submarine that was sunk in April 1943 when it submerged struck a drifting German mine off the Swedish west coast. All hands lost. This is one of the worst tragedies of the Swedish navy and allthough these 33 men never contributed in bringing down the Third Reich I choose to bear the name of the sub to honor them. A website about the sub, it's in Swedish, but the pictures are fascinating.

Hm, this post grew quite rapidly... I admire all you guys who had the patience to read all of it! I belive Winston Churchill once wrote something like: "I'm sorry this letter came out so long, I didn't have the time to write a short one."

Warm regards
Ulven

Welcome Swab! I have not had that many sunderland bearing down my butt like that! Go get GW and load it up. When you do, make sure you have a clean install. All traces of the first install must be off the hard drive. This includes the SH3 folder found in MY DOCUMENTS folder. Clean up the registry. Get the correct 1.4b patch(it says C but that is just a typo). Install the patch and then GW. It is very critical that the install is clean. If not, the game will not recognize any of the patches you attempt to use (there are 4 1.4b patches). If that happens GW will not install either. So all traces of the first install need to go

Welcome on board

It's true that SubSim is a chilled out and easy-going forum. people here are very friendly and helpful, so if you have any questions ask and we'll all do our best to answer them.

As far as GW is concerned it's a really great addition and it takes SH to a totally different level. You will not play the stock game ever after you try it. Now GWX is an even better addition and trust me it will blow you away

12 Sunderlands?!!!

That's a bad cruise, worst I've heard of.

Did you make it back to port?

Default Welcome

Welcome Aboard Ulven.

I too was inspired at first by AOD, and played it almost nonstop before getting SHI - played that a lot too. Don't worry about losing interest after that - you didn't miss anything with SHII.

Always great to enhance a player's gaming experience with Grey Wolves - I think you may like GWX a lot when it is finished. Until then, keep sinking tonnage and continue the fight.
