Can some pls confirm my English and French translation of the following sentence:
This crewman has been awarded a Wound Badge, so meets the criteria required to be awarded the U-Boat War Badge. FR: Cet homme d'équipage a été décoré de la Verwundetenabzeichen. Il a donc requis aux critères d'attribution de la U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen. DE: Dieses Besatzungsmitglied wurde mit dem Verwundetenabzeichen, und somit die Voraussetzungen erfüllt, um das U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen zu erhalten. Merci and danke. |

your french translation uses the german word for wound bage it should be
insigne de blessure but i think the translation should be Ce membre d'équipage a été attribué un insigne de blessure, rencontre ainsi les critères priés d'être attribué l'insigne de guerre d'U-Bateau. Kaleun |

Thanks, but the German term is intentional. The French language version of the game uses German text for medals and badges.

Hi JScones,
here's a little correction: "Dieses Besatzungsmitglied wurde mit dem Verwundetenabzeichen ausgezeichnet und hat somit die Voraussetzungen erfüllt, das U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen zu erhalten." Greetz, SSB |

As a native french speaker I'll chip in, Kaleun's translation has some minor errors :
Ce membre d'équipage a été attribué un insigne de blessure, rencontre ainsi les critères priés d'être attribué l'insigne de guerre d'U-Bateau. This crewman has been awarded a Wound Badge, so meets the criteria required to be awarded the U-Boat War Badge. should be : Ce membre d'équipage a été attribué une insigne de blessure, remplissant ainsi les critères requis pour reçevoir la U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen. Insigne is female so it's une insigne, rencontre is a literal translation, proper french word in this context is remplir, and the verb 'time' is wrong > remplissant. requis is also the word you're looking for, priés etc is never used in this context. Also, in French the german Uboat war is always translated as guerre sous-marine, they don't use 'U-bateau'. edit : just noticed your German term use |

It's not often someone's very first post is a major contribution. Thanks, Syneval, and welcome to the forums.

Thanks, as you can see I've been lurking around for quite a while ...
edit : if it was fifteen years ago, I must say I'm impressed ! the whole french accent and end word additions and verb conjugations are much more difficult than English imo Last edited by Syneval; 06-23-06 at 08:13 AM. |

Not in agreement with the last offered translation. It includes several errors of grammar. You should not translate decorations into French Germans it is ridiculous, it is necessary to leave expressions Germans in the French text. The first proposal was very good, with righteous man a small detail to be corrected. FR: Cet homme d'équipage a été décoré de la Verwundetenabzeichen. Il a donc requis aux critères d'attribution de l’U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen. They could translate : la Verwundetenabzeichen by : l’insigne des blessés , but I do not like too much! I do not understand JScones, I thought that Martin corrected the French texts? |

Thanks. Yes, Martin usually does. But I haven't heard from him lately? Is he still around?

Awesome. I'll be in touch as I'll soon have a need for some French translating which is unrelated to SH3Cmdr (but still SH3 related).
