Default How stupid is my Government?

Well how this one for a silly idea, which Tony Blair likes.

The nursery rhyme police - parents to take lessons in reading and singing

Another silly idea from Tony Blair, slightly more serious.

Lordy Lordy, when are they going to give it a rest?
It was not so long ago that they were dispensing with traditional nursery ryhmes because it might have been offensive to blacks:

"Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!
One for the master, one for the dame,
And one for the little boy who lives down the lane."

So, what stories and fables etc are going to be acceptable in this brave Nu-world that Tony seems so hell bent on creating?
"Peter and Jane live next door to some Somali's and then pay their council tax"?
"Peter has his car broken into by a bunch of chavs, reports it to the police but they do nothing"?
"Peter gets arrested for kicking seven bells out of some little oik who assaulted Jane on a quiet night out"?

Quote:
Mrs Hughes said: 'It is now clear that what parents actually do has a huge impact on children's well-being and capacity to succeed, both at the time and in future.
No, really? Quick stop the ******* press.

Quote:
She praised the Government's record of pouring billions into state benefits for single parents, into providing subsidies for childcare, into pushing mothers into work, and into the 'Sure Start' children's centres.
'Over the past 10 years what I have described is, I believe, an example of the enabling 21st century state in action,' Mrs Hughes said. Without Labour's policies, she said, 'we would be on the road to ruin, that is back to where we were 10 years ago.'
Excuse me for being cynical, but that last sentence is purely a matter of opinion.
Some of the comments from Jill Kirby, towards the end of the article, are spot on- describing this proposed scheme as arrogant, intrusive and "one more worthless scheme that will have no impact at all on children's lives."
Yes, yes and yes again.

Some examples of Nu-Nursery Ryhmes:
"Three blind mice. See how they run. They all ran after a farmer's wife, who cut off their tails with a carving knife. Did you ever see such a sight in your life, as three blind mice?"
Revised to:
"A triumvirate of murine rodents totally devoid of ophthalmic acuity was observed in a state of rapid locomotion in pursuit of an agriculturalist's uxorial adjunct. The aforesaid adjunct then performed a triple caudectomy utilizing an acutely honed bladed instrument generally used for subdivision of edible tissue."

more here: http://www.re-quest.net/reading/rhymes/index.htm

And while we're about it, whilst I can see how some people who cannot get past their own bigotry and their heightened sense of everyone else's too, what was wrong with the Robinson's Jam gollywog? ooooh, that's not PC lets ban it now. I never saw it as anything racist/'colourist' or any other i'st' or 'ism' I was not brought up that way to associate it with the denigration of other skin colours (it was all about the jam! no really it was)- and in time I think most would have come to think so.

Why do we continue to listen and give time on current affairs programs and newspapers (though I use the term loosely in this instance heheh) to this spurious rubbish? Oh... right. I forgot, we live in a country populated by morons, chavs and those to whom English is a second or third language. No wonder Tony wants to talk to Iran; he's had such a lamentably pitiful result here that any old armpit will now do. Oh well, perhaps he'll have more luck teaching Ahmadinejadadingdong to suck eggs instead.

Just one more reason why I will not miss him when he goes.

Aren't you a bit late with your outrage, I mean over at RSC this topic was discussed more than half a year ago.

Can't you get arrested in the UK for non politically correct statements about your own government? The title of this thread has got to make you worried!

Not yet give it time.

You can get arrested shouting it out while you stand outside Parliament. So much for free speech in that location.

The Labour Party is in the process of compiling a new party manifesto. The centrepiece of the campaign for the next election will be something like "We aim to take stupidity to new heights of stupidness and bring stupidity to all corners of Britain."
