Transfer between bases. An idea.

I'm not sure if someone else has been thinking this, but:

Personally I don't like this "teleport" -system when transfered from one base and fleet to another. For example from France to Middle Sea, when you have to be docked in your home base in France and after transfer you just find yourself in some port in Middle Sea.

So, my idea:

1. Leave you home base in France.
2. Carry out your mission and head to Middle Sea. If you are lucky enough, you can make it through Gibraltar.
3. Sail near the base you will be transfered.
4. Teleport (= End your patrol on the sea. You'll be "docked in" France.)
5. Request transfer
6. Start your new patrol from a new base

This system means, you'll get the "experience", how it's like to travel through the Gibraltar, for example, AND timeline is more "realistic". Only minus is that you have to use this teleport-system at first time while you can't drive in to your new and becoming home base.

What you think? Maybe a bit more realistic?

I like it. I have yet to change bases, so I didn't know transfers were 'teleported'. I agree; sailing there yourself is always better.

I think it's a good idea but it would be nice to have the option to chose between the 'old' way and this one. I do think though that transfers are hardcoded but again I might be wrong.

Good idea, however when you "teleport" the game takes into account the amount of time to transfer. So if you manually do it like you said you add additional time. So instead of say 35 days until your next patrol it could be double, depending how long it take you to get to the Mediterrian base of operations. However if you use SH3 commander, then you have a work around.

Think it is a good idea as long as you use SH3Commander to do the swap. I don't like the teleport either and think that you should be able to do the transit when you move out of German bases to France or Norway along with your flotilla. Adding time on doesn't sound all that attractive either as this shortens your active time for patrols.

I think historically when a flotilla base was changed, boats at sea would have been radioed to end their patrols in the new base and those in the old base would have been sent on their new patrol with orders to end at the new base. There might have been a very few cases where subs may have been moved over land as they were to get them into the Black Sea at one point, but I don't think this was common.

Good solution Rosencrantz!

To Tarjak and Marshall:

Time added won't be a problem, I think. First: You can edit time asked for the transit in basic.cfg -file. Second: If you use SHIII Cmdr, you can manually set time in port to be what you think would be "realistic".
