This is Aug 1940. I'm patrolling in Easten Britian.
So far, I'm using a VII/B and it looks good. However, with my SH3 World mod, many planes (7~8 per assult) come to disturb my boat. I'm finished/scared away most of them, but they are really troublesome. ![]() I had sunk about 8 small boats and 2 DDs, but I still have a pile of torpedos left cause I use my desk gun for costal merchant instead. ![]() I also had a gunnery duel w. flower covertte after my poor attack [I managed to sink her, but she picked up me in hypophone and started evasive measures] Which conning tower, VII/3 or VII/4 [U-flak] config should I use, to ward off these nonsenses but give me the greatest renown? ![]() I know renown counts and renown ROCKS! ![]() [30000 renown for a XXI ~ long way to go] ![]() |

Hello
If you fancy your chances against planes go for the U-flak option. If I were you though I would try to avoid planes as much as I could. They're nasty, fast and have a bad habbit to throw boms at your boat ![]() ![]() |

Aren't you a little early in the war for concerning about conning towers that won't be avaible for another 2,5 year? But in my opinion the Uflak trower looks dreadfull, so i always stay with the third.

You most likely have edited the basic.cfg file to get the conning towers early. I would stick with the VII/3 till deck guns on merchant ships drive you nuts (late 41 or early 42, depending on your tolerance)
VII/4 takes away your deck gun, but gives you greater fire power against aircraft. Make your mind up when you want to keep the deck gun to, then you have an answer. Good Hunting ![]() |

No, I didn't edit any config file and only the SH3 world is installed by me (to get more merchant ships on map)
I know tht the VII/3 & VII/4 configs ar very late, but if they come, I'm sure I'll purchase either one of them [if I don't get a type IX] What should I do? I wanta to try type XXI but I'm afraid that I'll be destroyed in 1943 Also, is getting a IX a good idea? It costs a lot of renown but I can get a lot back between 1941 and 1944 with it. Then with 30000 renown, I can get a XXI. However, the investment is huge and I don't have confidence to get through 1943 ![]() Please give your ideas |

The only way to find out if you like an IX boat better than a VIIC is to try it out. A lot of people around here like the XI more than the VII models (I'm not one of them though..), there is a big chance you wil like it as well. Just give it a try. You can always get the XXI in another campaign. You don't have to try everything out in one campaign you now. There is a lot of fun stuff to explore in the game, one of the nice things is that you have to take you're time to discover them.
