Unable to uninstall SH4
I am in a right mess now
I updated my system to Windows 7 I installed SH5, But it basically does not work, and it is not the programme I thought it would be, so I uninstalled it I went back to my SH4 but it will not run, missing file for the start animation! My problem is SH4 will not start at all, so I tried to uninstall it Using the disk uninstal nothing happens, even overnight, tried with control panel in windows uninstal programmes, again no go Deleted all files in WIN 7 for SH4, Nothing there on system other than in control panel SH4 uninstal nothing happens (again all night over night) I put the disk in and the instal option is greyed out, but will not uninstall if tried, I tried putting the disk in and opening it up and trying instal. exe no joy uninstal .exe nothing happens Now I am stuck with SH5, which is not what I thought it would be,( a simulator), so tried to use it as no other option, only, it does not work, the mouse just will not lock on any click point , it just drifts around Correct nvida graphics card onboard I have even sytem restored to before I updated to win7 no good I now have nothing other than SH5 that is usless Please be gentle, an old submariner from 1962, now ex IT network engineer Jack McH |

The installation program, will not let you install, unless the entry from the control panel is removed i think. If you removed the entire sh4 folder, you need to remove the entry in the cp.
This tool can be useful: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Run it, click 'Registry' then 'Scan for issues' after that 'Fix selected issues' it will ask you if you want to make a backup. |

32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista ?
As I remember, SH4 is protected with Securom 7 or 8. The installer doesn't check for protection, launching the game does. So you should be able to install the game without any problem. Once patched to 1.5 using the expansion pack, the protection check is removed so no problems can arise from the protection itself. When you did play SH4 previously, what was the operating system on this machine ? Are you using a 64-bit version of Win7 ? |

You can remove it by hand.
Throw the Ubisoft folder in the Trash and empty. Launch regedit.exe and use the search function to search for "silent" or "hunter" or "ubisoft". Delete any Reg key related to Silent Hunter. Then use CCleaner to search for invalid/incorrect registry entries, and fix them all. Then try to install again |

Surfaced
OK I had to format drive c:/ and re install winVista
I now have nothing other than SH4 The SH4 instal would not uninstal because I had updated and it did not recognise the update 1.4 It was uninstalling sh4 v1 which was no longer there It would NOT INSTAL because I had a newer version of SH4 on my PC No doubt if I was intelligent, I could have done it easier than wiping my HD and losing everything (I wrote out my email contact addys, and managed to transfer to disc my Favourites AND photos other than that all progs and data have gone after a format drive C: the only drive I have) I dare not upgrade SH4 incase I am back to square 1 As for SH5 I just will never put it on again anyway, as I am not into ARCADE GAMES Thanks both for your help Jack McH |

When you install SH4 put it in some other folder, not Programs Files.
That causes all kinds of problems. You should than be able to install v1.4 You really have to have 1.4 installed and by the way the Securom is removed with v1.4. There is a thread here about installing with Vista and Win7 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=150996 Good gaming choice by the way, I seem to be saying this a lot lately. Welcome to the boat mate. Magic

Once your SH4 is installed, you can right-clic on the folder and make an archive using WinRAR for example. If something goes wrong, put the SH4 folder to the trash, and extract the archive.
Keep that backup up to date and you'll never need to reinstall |
