Default GWX3 Hat trick: CV CL BB DD sunk

I do not count the other versions of SH3 before GWX.
After I completed that full war successful career I tried SH4 again, yawn, so I started a new career from the beginning in GWX3.

I left Kiel on March 31 for the Norwegian campaign, patrol 7 for U45 and sat off the coast never sighting the English.
In previous patrols I had sunk 2 destroyers (One off Poland P2, first war patrol) and in a night convoy attack I nailed HMS Nelson.
I also caught an Arethusa class light cruiser NW of Northern Ireland.
I have sunk escort carriers many times in the last few years of GW versions but rarely I have even seen a fleet carrier.
Death of HMS Nelson

I have sunk escort carriers many times in the last few years of GW versions but rarely I have even seen a fleet carrier.
Well bored off Norway I decided to take a run across the Shetland and Orkney Islands. I spotted something big and to my surprise unescorted, a Victorious class CV.
She was moving fast but upon seeing me she started to zigzag and opened fire on me so moving at flank to get in front I had no choice but to dive with 8 5.25inch guns firing.
With no escorts I kept flank speed on the electrics and by her zig zag ended up in a decent position to fire at 12 degrees.
I no longer use multiple launching of fish because they angle and that causes poor impact of the detonators. Instead I open all tubes and fire singly so I have a straight shot each time.
That means I must fire, then click on the next tube and fire etc. She was moving too fast so I only got off three before the 4th would have missed astern (I was wrong about that but is what I thought when firing) but cranked hard left rudder and angled #4 to 25 degrees.
The carrier caught all three fish and that slowed her down so I could get the fourth one off and that was the finisher.
23,000 tons making over 76K tons of warships and 116K tons of merchants by the end of April 1940 for 192K total

These are certainly happy times.

I am so SO jealous! In-career with GWX... I have never sunk a carrier of any kind!

(Of course it is only recently that I could really sink my teeth into playing a career mission that wasn't mod-testing oriented.)

At any rate... it is REALLY nice to finally be sailing for FUN!!!

Congrats on your hat trick Wulfmann.

Happy to hear you are now on patrol.

I learned from mod making in flight sims and how the testing left me too well informed that SH3 was going to be for me to enjoy.
Play only.
Thanks to the work of your team I have done so long past when this sim should have passed into history.
Except for modding Pauchenschlag I do not look at any of the routes adding to the surprises.

I must say this is the first time I have gotten close to a fleet carrier in all this playing and if no SH5 was on the way and I played this everyday for 3 more years I would expect to not see another.

I can't believe I still love doing this sim, because of GWX3 no doubt.
