Default Sport: UEFA Euro 2024

Here we go once again. We who like football can get more than enough each day the next month forward.

My favorite teams are
Germany
Holland
and
Belgium

I was hoping Germany would win...however I didn't expect a 5-1 win.

Germany have always(almost) having a good offensive play

They go after the motto-Fulles kraft voraus

As a Scot, I think you're overestimating how good our national team is. We can do reasonably well against the B or C league teams, but never a hope against the A listers.

We've been out of serious international competition for far too long.

The situation isn't helped by two teams, Rangers and Celtic, dominating to the detriment of the entire domestic structure, nor is there enough money in Scottish football to really compete with the big nations.

At least they managed to score a goal, which is probably the best that can be expected.

Mike.

German team has plenty of shame behind it. 2018, 2020, and 2022 were disgraceful, both regarding success and behavior and selfpresentation. A new start is tried with the new coach, and Scotland may have been the right opponent to build up team morale and self confidence, but it hardly was a sports standard to measure against. The final test matches before the tournament were not really encouraging, took plenty of effort and did not convince. Lets see what they make of it during the hot challenge. The match against Scotland certainly whetted the appetite for more and raised hopes. It remains to be seen whether the Germans can fulfill them instead of shamelessly embarrassing themselves as they have done in recent tournaments. Scotland were not of the callibre to provide any answers.

How long ago was it that Germany send home Brazil 7:1...? Ten years. The team back then and the team today still do not compare, not by lightyears.

I remain open-minded, and cautiously hopeful. But i refuse to take any positive results for granted. As a German proverb goes: one swallow does not make a summer.

I'm not a football fan (I can't stand it, actually), so I declined to waste my time watching the game and so wasn't aware of the nature of the Scottish "goal" at the time I posted.

We should stick to rugby, we're generally better at it.
