what is your furthest you have gone in a type 7 without refuelling at a milkcow or another port? Just curious as i am wanting to take my Type 7 on some longer patrols and want to see what a normal long range patrol is for that class of boat.
thanks guys ![]() |

Keelbuster if he's around could probably answer this one.
Im quite sure that a type7 can go all the way to the east coast and carribean. Only problem is, it wont have enough fuel to get back ![]() You could always try and find out yourself, but its gonna be a long and boring trip. To get the most range, you'll want to use your diesals as little as possible, and run them only long enough to charge your batts. |

West Central Afrika, is the furthest I've been in a Type VIIC. Also had enough fuel to return to base, but had to run at about 8.75 knots showing on the dial to get the best fuel economy. Had the 1st generation drive shaft driven supercharger at the time. Left from St.Nazaire for that patrol, to ET23 or something like that.

hmmm....i am beginning to think that the IX boat may be the one for me then. I am intrigued by the US coast and the Caribbean tankers. Is the IX-B a good boat or should I hold out for the type C?

You might enjoy this:
A galloping ghost of the carribean coast ![]() edit: Bottom line on the IXC is it has a bit more fuel and 1 extra torpedo. I should mention that curraco is a fairly unique harbor in the game, as the waters are deep where most harbors are shallow. Traffic is frequent enough in early 42. Late 42 and43 you'll notice it less frequent. In 43 i think theres a fast moving convoy from curraco to new york. How much traffic you see depends primarly on the mod your running. I highly recommend going to New York before 42 to see the statue of liberty, brooklyn bridge and the like. After 42 its a bit harder to see those. Also, i highly recommend editing your main.cfg in mydocuments to raise your maximum Time compression to 2048 for the transatlantic trip. Putting -1 on aircraft warnings to puase the game coudlnt hurt either. Last edited by Ducimus; 10-11-06 at 06:29 PM. |

Last night I was ordered to DD66.
It required my making 9.5 knots and not veering off course. I ran into a convoy that required no altering course on the way out for 26K and once done I returned to St Nazaire. I was informed I ran out of fuel about 100KM from port but that seems to mean there is a reserve of some sort so I made it back on diesels but barely. That is far from the east coast of the USA but about as far as a type VII can go on one tank. Wulfmann

might depend on if you mod or not....there are two mods below that change the battery consumption because calculation units were off in code or something.... its called SH3 Battery Mod v 1.1
