Recomended fiction reading?

Getting back into SH3 atm, and would like some bedtime reading to go with it, what do you guys recomend? Hopefully the local library has it...

Well, does it HAVE to be fiction? I can recommend a couple of non-fiction sub-related books, if you're interested.

The Bravest Man by William Tuohy is about the WWII submarine USS Tang and her skipper, Richard O'Kane.

Or, if you're more an SH3 kinda guy, then try the classic Iron Coffins by Herbert A. Werner in which he describes his career as a U-Boat commander.

Doesn't have to be fiction, just in a fiction kind of mood. Anything that helps me understand u-boat tactics is good.

Of course, the novel The Boat by Lothar Gunther Buchheim is a "must read." I also enjoyed Sharks and Little Fish: A Novel of German Submarine Warfare by Wolfgang Ott.

I'd like to recommend "Black May" by Michael Gannon. IMO it is a perfect mixture of "fiction kind of mood" stuff (narrative style, anecdotes) and at the same time a short and brilliant analysis of the Atlantic war. It tells the decisive battle from both perspectives, u-boat and escort crews and highlights the climax and turning point, the fierce convoy battles in 1942/1943 (large wolf packs vs. well escorted convoys) and the final defeat of the German u-boat fleet in May 1943.

Run, silent, run deep is always a good choice, even though it is the wrong theater.

Find a copy of "Raider of the Deep" by Lowell Thomas. It's about WWI U-boats. You'll love the story about the monkey on the famed U-35.
BTW, it's non-fiction. Great read.

I guess it has to be WWII, right? I was going to recommend "Dangerous Ground" by Larry Bond, but that's modern. I can't think of any Atlantic theater reading, but I liked "Dust on the Sea", the sequel to "Run Silent". Also, I remember reading one of Harry Homewood's books - also PTO - which bored the hell out of me, but seemed to be deep on the subject of subs.
