Default How does windows know?

That updates are available when you haven't even connected to the internet.

I update my PC, go away for two weeks, turn it on when I get back, haven't even connected to the net and it tells me there are new updates ready for my computer.

Voodoo at work I think....

I am not sure what you mean there, it depends.
For example, I have a router, the router is always connected to the internet no matter what, so as soon I turn on my PC, and you see that windows loading thing at the beginning, it's already communicating with windows servers. Therefore, if you have a router, it explains all.

If you don't, and connect via password or other means, it's impossible it communicates.
The way it does is that it caches the result when you are connected, and than warns you the next time you turn on the PC.

No, your all wrong!
Windows has little remote transmitters that tell Microsoft EVERYTHING that you are doing! Then they can spy on what sites you visit, and place their ad's there....*evil laugh*

Most of the patches are monthly updates to certain features, like Windows Spyware Removal, as there are always new forms of dangerous virii, etc. out there that can hamr your computer.

Windows knows. It knows everything. There are no unknown unknowns with windows, only knowns.

At this very moment, as you sit in front of your monitor reading this text, Windows is using the reflection of the monitor's light off your face to read your mind.

Please keep your thoughts clean.
