Default Worst patrol -ever!

...not that I've sunk or anything - I just havent caught ANYTHING
This is my 2nd patrol in a new career using GW (AND LOVING IT - THANKS!!!). I'm on my way home, 'cause fuel is getting low. I haven't found a single enemy ship until now, and I'm right at the entrance to the Irish Channel!
I did get a task force alert (my second in any career), but they obviously turned before reaching me (800+ km's).
And on top of that, I finally came across a Small Merchant - and what happens: He won't go down after 4 hits and 15 m/s wind!!!
No, I don't think it's GW, it's just plain bad luck - and it SUCKS!!!

There... I fell better already (sort of)

I've had a few of those in my IIA, mostly due to the torpedos never reloading problems, but last nite I got a VIIB and had my 6th patrol and it was great!

You can read about it and view pictures here:

AAR: U-24's Sixth Patrol w/5 kills! (now U-50)

I tried a new campaign with 74% realism last nite as well. Boy, am I not ready for that! Things were going great, but I missed every shot I took.

Happened to me on my first W@W patrol. Not even one single little itsy-bitsy contact.Nothing.Just distant TF's and convoys that would be well gone before I was half-way to their position.Pretty much the same thing happened on my second one,but I was able to intercept a convoy and sink a couple of ships.I'm using NYGM,so it's just bad luck I guess

Well i had something like this! MY first real patrol with my IXB. I was so amazed! On my way home back to base (was a medicore patrol till then) i got quite some ships and my KTB filled whole 2 pages with a tonnage i could only dream of! And then came the DD' after 3 hours of real time and LTR mod by Nvdrifter i go DC'ed into the bottom!
My best tonnage in all my SH3 careers and then this!

Talk about bad worst patrol!

Yes the sea is not teeming with targets
In RL a very high percentage of uboats never saw an enemy ship at all

It was on my second patrol. I just got so lucky ....8 ships , 7 merchants ( medium and big) and a destroyer (I think, it hapenned a long time ago). then the badluck, on my way back to kiel. A frigate spotted me, i knew the procedure and ordered a periscope depht dive so i could get away at slow speed. I thought it did'nt detect me but it actually did. then I realized my mistake , I was'nt running in silent mode! But it was unfortunately too late for me as he was beginning to drop his depht charges. My sub just blew underwater. I had a total tonnage of over 16,000 tons

Default Got a bit creative with this story^^

My best experience quickly turned into my worst...

In the middle of a relatively unsuccessful patrol in U-553 (Type VIIC), on the way home when I ran into a small convoy. 8 merchants, 3 armed trawler escorts, one of the merchants (troop carrier) was armed. Took down the trawlers with the deck gun while I torpedoed the troop carrier. Once everything with a gun on it was down, I spent the rest of my ammo (and I mean ALL of it) on the rest of the ships. Left nothing floating but boxes.

Then the Hurricanes came. I was far away from where I sank the convoy, almost back to Lorient. I figured they wouldn't do very much, but I dived anyway, lest they try to call in the Liberators or the Sunderlands. Maintaining course and full speed, I went toward Lorient at periscope depth. The Hurris soon left.

I thought I was home free, so I surfaced and slowed a bit. The weather was starting to worsen, with winds picking up and clouds coming in from the West. I figured it was nothing to worry about, what with my proximity to the French coast. Then out of nowhere, in the pitch-black darkness and 15m/s wind, I see a spotlight shining straight at me. I dived immediately, periscope being as deep as I could go this close to the coast. With a quick peek through the scope, I hoped that it was just a lighthouse or a Schnellboot or something. Then, through the trough of a wave, I saw the port side of a Tribal destroyer, its spotlight glaring at my scope. At this point, I could only run for it and hope a friendly ship or the Luftwaffe or something could come and at least distract him. After a good 45min of floundering around in 20m waters with a marauding Tribal desperately searching for some sign of where I am, nothing. Their light was pointing in the other direction, and they were at least 1500m away, so I came out of silent and ran. BAD IDEA. They immediately picked me up, turned around, and made a beeline for my conning tower. They'd take potshots at it as the waves exposed it for a few seconds as I ran for my life through the churning sea. A lucky shot knocked out both scopes and I had no idea how close it was. I kept checking with my NO for the depth, and it kept getting shallower, little by little...11m...10m...can't stay under for much longer. If the Tribal doesn't get me, the ocean floor will. I had no choice but to turn hard starboard, so I don't scrape against the ground. The Tribal keeps right on me, coming closer and closer. I check the map and hope I'm near the port...almost...

BOOM....SCREEEEEEEE.

Massive flooding...outrageous damage...no engines, no scopes...
Crap.
