My profile has disappeared

I just started up the game to finish off a patrol, the first of a new career; 16000+ tons (4 merchants, 1 frigate) and the two profiles I had created are gone. All I have now is the option of a new profile and a new career. I n view of the time and effort put into that first patrol, this is more than a little bit annoying.

I started up SH Commander but that can't see the old profiles either. Has anyone else come across this problem?
