Thats about the normal prices for microsoft OS's, I remeber when WindowsXP pro came out it was alot of money as well. I dont think Vista will be that great tho, its more a facelift with nice glassy interface graphics and a few patch ups from winxp problems. I actually think it will be a letdown out of all the OS's to come out. Windows2000 with service pack 3 for me is the best OS from Microsoft, I have win2k running on my second PC and it plays SH3 better than winxp - crash wise. Then XP came out with a ladi da facelift and a 100 patchup's to follow. Best thing to come out of winxp from win2k is winxp is more gaming friendly. But unless your patched winxp for the 100th time and update your IE your just a target on the net otherwise.

If Linux was as gamer friendly as windows how many would drop windows in a instance. I would. But whats the point for me having Linux on my PC when i can't play games, no point installing linux and only use it for email/internet, unless your running a website.

A Beta version of the M$ Vista Upgrade Checker - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...r/default.mspx

Funny it says everything is ok with my system but that i need to change my USB host device - just that means the motherboard then :rotfl::rotfl:

What is a Windows Vista Capable PC?

A new PC that carries the Windows Vista Capable PC logo can run Windows Vista. All editions of Windows Vista will deliver core experiences such as innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and reliability. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run these core experiences at a minimum. Some features available in the premium editions of Windows Vista—like the new Windows Aero user experience—may require advanced or additional hardware.
A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
  • A modern processor (at least 800MHz).
  • 512 MB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs
To get an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience, ask for a Windows Vista Capable PC that is designated Premium Ready, or choose a PC that meets or exceeds the Premium Ready requirements described below. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware.
A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:
  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
  • 1 GB of system memory.
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
  • 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
  • DVD-ROM Drive.
  • Audio output capability.
  • Internet access capability.
15GB of HD for an install

I think i'll stay with my latest M$ OS for a while longer

lol

No plans over here to buy Vista at release date or in the 1-2 years after that. none of the fewer and fewer sims and strategy games i am interested in could benefit from it, or need it. So, why should I play beta-tester for the next two years, and remain unpayed? Vista is too obviously focussing on the eye candy side of life. That a highend graphic card is needed to use it's visual options is not an argument for but against it.

I need a bit of up grading which I will be looking into early next year mainly so I can run SH4. I hope SH4 will not be vista that I am dreading apart from that little worry, I too will not bother just seems like a lot of gloss with a lot of patching needed so what's new there.

I'm currently holding out to upgrade my PC til after the first few series of DX10 compatible video cards come out.
Cause I'm buying FSX and it's designed aroung Vista/DX10 so I'll look to be getting Vista for that upgrade, but MS OS's are always expensive and I can see myself going "ouch" when a look at getting it

But by that time a few people from work will have had Vista for a while and I can query them on how it goes.

All I need to replace is my video card.

15GB for install?? Wow that is one hefty OS. Maybe I'll switch to MAC.

The compatibility issues frighten me. I'm having an unsettling experience right now just to think of it.

I'll have to buy a new PC just to run Vista and DirectX 10 and keep this one for everything else.
