How do you make your movies?

Okay. I was told to download fraps, so I did, but I haven't registered it yet, 'cause I don't really know how you fellers make you movies that I have been posting on my website and HunterICX, how did you get your text in your video? I suppose there is a lot to learn. eh?

Also, I'm not that great in managing the eye view or the F12 and arrows. Is there a way I can stop making the shot while I try to find what I want to shoot?

Use fraps for capturing what you want, then you can insert the raw footage into say Windows Movie Maker. (Its on all Windows XPs?)

The you can start toying around with text and effects. The best method is to do it yourself, and by no time you will get a hang of it.

I havent used Movie Maker for a while, so maybe somebody else could do a crash course?

PS; I use Ulead Videostudio 9, which is better, but a little bit more complicated. Movie Maker is also good,though.

Ok, you dont need to register if you don't want to pay the fee first of all. Second when you open Fraps, a window should open showing tabs labeled as General, FPS, Movies, and Screenshots. Click movies, and you should see a label "Video Capture Hotkey"


select the key you will press when you want to start recording, this will be difficult since just about all the keys are used in the game, I presonally use the "/" key since i dont use the event camera. You are not recording until you hit that key, please note since this is the free version, you can only record for 30 seconds, which is usually plenty of time. Also note that these clips are huge in size, ranging in the 200-300 megabyte range. That last video ended up being only 80 megabytes, from the near 2 gigabytes i made it from. once you take your clip, its saved in the folder under "Folder to save movies in"

After you are done making clips, then open up Windows movie maker, click "Import Video" From this part, you can also put in music, video, and effects like putting the text in the video

Find the folder you saved your movie clips in, then you can view them, and place them in their appropriate place on the time line at the bottom of Windows Movie Maker. If you need more help just ask

Nope, neither is numberpad 5, ctrl, or alt key as far as the key commands tell me.

Cool. Which transition or whatever do I put between two clips that rolls like a page opening into the next clip?

Then how do I get text into a clip? I assume that a text message cannot go across two clips, right?

Actually im pretty sure you can. The movie maker works like this, you have the video time line, which has everything from the game like sound etc etc, then the audio time line for inserting music, then the text overlay for putting text during clips, you can extend the time it is




The trasition your looking for is called Page Curl, its 7 rows down from the first row of trasitions

Ctrl is used as a security button for not firing torpedoes by accident in GW. (ctrl+enter to fire)

To get the rolling page use page curl left or page curl right.

Click "make titles or credits" to get text in clips. The submenu lets you choose what kind. I dont think you can get text to cross clips in Movie Maker.

Edit: Jager has corrected me, apparently you CAN make text cross clips.

Sorry for being so inquisitive, but I've just started my patrol to BE35 and I think I'd like to try to make a movie consisting of the important parts of the mission. Like U-51 on patrol, then Mission: destroy all enemy shipping, then patrol zone is BE35. Ya get the idea?

Oh, ya, stabiz and Jager, how in the world do you get such clear under-the-surface shots? My submerged sub is not that clear.

Do you do "stop action" like TC = 0 to move your "eye" position where you want it then TC = 1 and film for 10-30 secs.

Oh, btw, I use a program called HypoSnap Pro, running, minimized while playing SH3. That's how I got the snaps that I put in My Spaces on MSN for each patrol.

So, will fraps run as well and just take a short movie when I press "/" or whatever, because I use Ctrl + Shift + F to take a snap of the screen for my slideshow im My Space on MSN.

They won't conflick with the running of all three, Hyposnap, ffaps and SH3?

I hope you fellas won't mind if I have a particular question or problem I can PM you?

I dont get clear underwater footage with Greay Wolves, since I haven`t fixed the water transparancy after my reinstall. (Haveto find that thread again )

The vanilla game gives you great underwater footage, so are you using any mods?

You probably wont have any conflict with fraps and HypoSnap, but you WILL probably get a stutter in your movie. I do not know this, but i presume it.

I am using the vanilla version with SH3CMDR and SH3GEN and some mods. but the mods I have do not have any affect on the density of the water. I just tried it. It's just a real chore trying to get the right view, :rotfl:

I use tc 0 to find my angle, then maybe I let the sub run by to see if its any good, and then do it again whilst recording.

(I also used to move the camera alot, but it actually looks better if you let things happen with the camera steady, and stick to your angle)

I have fraps minimized on my task bar and when I start to play SH3 I see yellow numbers running at the top left of the screen. What's happening?
