Default Problem installing GW 1.1a

Hello everyone, first I want to say what a great site this is. The people here are more mature then a few other boards I have browsed.

Could someone point me in the right direction to figure out an installation problem I am having with the GW 1.1a mod?

I downloaded the mod from the download section here and made sure each section was complete. When I try to install I get an error saying the source files are corrupt. I suspect that the fix will be to download everything again, but I hope someone can tell me there is another way to fix the problem.

The sizes of the 5 sections that I downloaded follow:
a-1: 178,751,648
a-2: 179,300,000
a-3: 179,300,000
a-4: 179,154,367
exe: 547,845

Thank you for your help!

Default install

There was a thread a few days ago which went into great detail abut this problem. From what I remember parts 1 and maybe 4 are corrupted and need to be re-downloaded.
Search this forum and the mod forum for the last week or so.

Hello, how about visiting this site and grap the files from there...

http://www.silenthunter.dk/

I got that site from one of the posts here when I was looking for a place to get the mod from, and fortunately I found it and add it to my favorites.

thanks for the Host

Peace...Out..

Just a few minor clarifications:

1. No GW1.1a source d/l files are corrupt. Any corruption to the files occurs during d/l and will most likely be different for each affected user.

2. The version of GW at http://www.silenthunter.dk/ is not the user friendly auto installer. McBeck, if you read this, pls feel free to replace the 7z files with the new "official" installer version (check your PM for more details).

The problem with corrupt files is that whilst most of the time you can identify them because the destination file size is different to the source file size, this is not always the case. Perhaps if you post the exact error message that you are receiving I can tell you which file to re d/l.

Thank you for the offers to help. Sorry it took so long to reply but I was watching the World Cup.

Following is the exact error message:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Interior\NSS_Ub oat21\NSS_Uboat21_RR.000

An error occured while trying to copy a file:
The source file is corrupted

The size of the downloaded files match what is posted here. I plan to install GW 1.1a to a clean copy of SHIII. I have been playing a campaign using NYGM 2.01 on another copy of SHIII that I made. Not sure if the above information is helpful.

From what I have read, I suspect that the first file got corrupted during DL. Also because I get the error message right at the beginning of the install process.

Please forgive my somewhat stilted english as it is not my mother tongue.

Thank You again for your willingness to help.

I can recommend the use of par2 files created by QuickPar! This will allow dl's to quickly realize which file is a corrupted dl, and QuickPar can repair the files too!

Hi JScones, thank you for the interest. Having done much troubleshooting here is what I think the problem is:

I installed an nForce4 SLI Motherboard (MSI Neo4 Platinum) during a recent upgrade. There are two potential problems with this board when downloading files from the internet. One, either the Network Controller or the onboard ethernet causes pauses while downloading corrupting the files even though they show up as complete. Two, the motherboard has issues with data corruption if using a Matrox HDD with a SATA interface controller. I doubt my problem is number 2 as I use the IDE controller and have no problem transferring stored data. I still have some research to do to grasp the problem completely.

I am going to download the newest network and ethernet drivers and see if that fixes the problem. If not, I may have to disable both the Network Controller and Ethernet Card and use a PCI Ethernet Card with my router.

If that fails I will probably buy a non nForce4 motherboard and install it. (Hopefully it will not be that drastic.)

As you pointed out the files on this site a fine.

The problem lies with my system, therefore the responsibility to troubleshoot and fix it is mine. (Though any help is always appreciated!)I hope this made sense and I am sorry for the long post.

Sincerely,
Greif8

I received a similar message Grief8.

I downloaded all the files again, and this second time, the install was hanging during the mp3 unpack... :hmm:

I found that by downloading it directly from the ftp site, I was able to perform a good install the first time.

Hope that helps...

Problem solved!

The problem ended up having two parts. First the Network Access Manager(NAM) used by nForce4 boards is very buggy and causes data loss when downloading. I deleted the NAM and that fixed the problem with corrupted downloads for a while.

The second problem was with the cpu. I have an AMD Dual Core processor. It seems that there is a timing issue between the two core causing the timing to slowly drift apart. The longer the system is on the worse the problem becomes making things like browsing the web and downloading a big problem. AMD, while not admitting directly that there is a problem, has released a driver update at:

www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

that appears to fix the problem.
