Default Betrayed by UBD

I really must have pissed off command or something because after leaving port ( Brest ) October 1944 I got radio message saying " Brest is now no longer funtional as a base of operations " or something like that ... few minutes later I get a message saying my base had changed to Bergen ........ OK ... fine by me ,so I go on and do the patrol I was ordered to go do and completed it and make my way all the way to Bergen and dock there ... Mission end ....

Re outfitted my boat with fresh torpedos and flak ammo and got my crew back to the boat and in their assigned posts, we start a new patrol ....... As soon as the game loaded my watch officer screams " SHIP SPOTTED SIR ! " and imeditally we start getting deck gunned by a British Troop Transport and a Norwegian Coastal Merchant ..... I order periscope depth and pray I don't hit the bottom of the sub pen I am in and a quick look around and I think " this sure looks like Brest NOT Bregen " ... Sure enough it is !

I hurry and get boat moving and get away from band playing and the pen you spawn in and order hard to starboard for a few seconds and stop about 20 meters and wait while my crew fixes a few things that was damaged ....... Wasn't too long and about 15 Liberator Bombers dropped their whole cargo into the sub pen where I was a few minutes ago plus a few bomber fighters had a go too on the spot they thought I was at .......... All the time the band played on

After things got quiet I raised periscope and sank both the troop transport and the merchant ... then ahead slow and past the sub pens was a small tanker flying a USA flag which burst into a big fireball from my torpedo that hit broadside ..... " Sound contact sir ! Warship , closing , fast , long range " ........ Great ! just what I need now especially in 12 meters of water

Read other thread about Bow shots ... my first one since it was heading right at me and no place to manuver the boat in time before she got to me .... Worked great ! must have sank in less than 2 minutes

Anyways , this is my 3 carreer and the first time I got left behind after bases get changed in the late part of the war .... was exhiliatering to say the least

Hmmm! I've never heard of this happening before. (By the way, it's BDU. )

These last 3 pics below are liberator bombers ... a long line of them of about 15 of them this time .. notice how they are pretty acurate of dropping their payload ..... I didn't see any figher bombers this time around .......

That pic was 2 bombers smashing into each other ... guess they both was in too much of a hurry .....

I think the way to avoid that situation, is the patrol that you get the "your base was changed" message, use the instant teleport and "Return to base" instead of going to the base the game said it was changed to and docking. The whole functionatliy surrounding it is a bit buggy.

Every base has a 3 digit for numberic code.

There was a problem with transfering to St. Nazaire when the game first shipped.

I have a feeling the 3 digit code for Bergen is no being overwritten properly in the save file.

Same here!

This must've been a helluva trip. 15 meter water under keel, helpless and a whole army of Tommies boats to boot.
Damn tight! Cool stuff!

Ps. But who knows maybe the Tommies just wanted to get rid of the bloody marching band!

great story, must of been a hell of a mission at the start. Did you have to go all the way submerged till you were way clear as wouldn't there been destroyers patrolling outside as well.

I'm not sure I would have been able to think so quickly.

Probably we would just put our hands up in surrender and start waving white flags and stuff.

The pic with the bombs dropping in the sub dock is sweet!

Yep... submerged all the way to ocean as the air patrols looking for me never stopped ... There was only one river escort destoyer that made a bee line to come find me.... I took a fast bow shot as it came into the bay ... first bow shot I ever did ( out of desperation really ) .... I finally surfaced about 100 km out to sea to let repair crews fix the bridge and flak guns ....
