Mid 1942 - Radar is useless - Is there a fix?

It seems almost impossable to survive a patrol now, I know things were bad but this is unrealistic!

I am on the surface & it's a clear day then all of a sudden there are 3 or 4 planes overhead dropping DC's on me!

not so bad if I play at 1x but certainly if >32x there is no warning the map shows nothing there, but I'm being attacked! my crew must be blind & so much for radar!!

Is there a mod to fix this?
