If one is repeating the same old mistakes, it is no wonder that the outcome is the same. Russian commanders offered their help and advise, and to share their experience with the Americans. the latter rejected, saying they do not need any advise.
A centuries-old saying concerning Afghanistan: it is easy to get inside of it, but it is very difficult to get out again. It has been like that with almost all invasions that place has seen - and that were quite a few...
