Do I have to complete my patrol?

I am on my 14th patrol. Have been pretty successful at sinking ships in the assigned patrol grid. Now, on this patrol, when I was just going to start my search of the area [grid AM41], I received a message from headquarters that a large convoy was in grid AM01 which is just NE of it so I pursued that convoy and sunk the rear guard, a V&S Destroyer so what I would like to know is this. I reached my patrol grid, so that is now complete, but I have not patrolled it for 24 hours as required because I went after the convoy. Will I get an incomplete on the mission and fail it? I have never left the patrol area before the required patrol time was completed. Thanks, Robert

You can just go back to your patrol grid and complete what is left of the 24 hours. You don't have to do 24 hours all at once.

Or if you don't want to do that, you could just go back to base, nothing serious happens except that you don't get the 200 reknown you would normally reciesve for patrolling the grid for 24 hours.
