That way hilarious! :rotfl: :rotfl:

But IMO, depending on what they plan to use the cards for, I would not rush to be intuitively against them.

Here in the U.S. we have Social Security Cards, and you need them for just about everything. We don't have a national picture ID card, but at the state level they're very close to mandatory. Of course most of us have a driver's license, and stores require ID if they thing you're underage for buying tobacco or alcohol.

I don't know about Britain, but here it's the general belief that the government doesn't have any rights-they all devolve on the people. Of course, try telling that to the IRS or any other tax agency.

On the other hand, when people start to worry about Orwell's 1984 coming true, I like to point out that the 'Information Age' has actually made it easier for us to keep tabs on the government, as well as the other way around. I prefer to keep my government closer to home: I want national government with less power, not more.

We have a National Insurance number which we need for nearly everything of importance these days - applying for jobs, drawing various benefits if needs be etc etc. And we have passports, of course.

We also have a government which is beginning to look increasingly afraid of its own citizens.

Tony Blair won't be happy until we are all Chantelle from Big Brother: Stupid, harmless and easily amused.

You know there has been talk of removing history as a separate subject from the national curriculum.....What don't they want us to know?

It’s a big bluff the ID Card is a lie, and will not stop Terrorists, fraudsters and all the rest, it’s nothing more than surrendering your civil rights to those who want to control you. Yes George Orwell’s 1984 is almost here.

Another good example remember the TV series The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan and that famous line “I am not a Number I am a Free Man” one thing in that show was constant surveillance unheard of back in the 1960’s but now surveillance camera’s are all over the place.
