Default Those Nasty New Zealanders! or patrol 2 of the Med

Just an update. Took some advice from a wise man that said if I want to be "entertained" I should go to Alexandria (current date April 16, 1941) so I am on my way.

Cleared Gilbraltar - minor damage - and yes this time @ 150m & silent but still they found me or at least got close, good news was only some slight damage.

On the way to Alexandria I decided to go fishing for NZ merchants again CN25 seems to be the place. Its the flag; draws me to them, along with the Australians colors. :|\

I spy/spot a coastal merchant with that lovely blue flag and union jack. Ahh Zealanders! again. This time I am going to save eels and just surface to give them a taste of 88mm.

Guess what happened?

They shot back! Those animals put what looked like the biggest gun I have ever seen on a merchant; I am guessing it was a siege cannon. Good thing they are not better shots, a round landed nearby, still thought we were going to be capsized by the explosion.

Fortunately the Type VII is a fast swimmer and we dove hard.

On top of that problem with him, he is wiggling away at 7 knots. I fired eel #1 only to see it bounce off its hull - those devils armor that coastal too!?

Fire tube two! I give the order finally sending that mutant to floor....

But I have a new found respect for those ships flying those colors...

BTW I love my new avatar; hope I get to keep it for a while...

By the statement "I spy/spot a coastal merchant with that lovely blue flag and union jack" I take it you never D/L the flag patch I put up for you. In case your wondering I did correct the NZ Mercantile flag. Not that it matters but I'm just curious.

Forgot to mention that sir but I used the mod enabler - maybe that did not work?

But I did get the message at the enabler asking me if I really wanted to change/overwrite those files (tga?) each had a country name.

Maybe I need to re-apply the flag patch directly? Will wait for port; I am deciding if I dock Tripoli or Augusta for fuel.

TY again,

Its not mod enabler friendly!

Just copy past the data folder directly into your Silent Hunter III game folder. It has the same number of flags or more, as either RUB, IUB and HT mods so it wont have any advers effect. And since its just an eye candy change you can do so after your next save and exit of the game. No need to be docked at port for this 1.

So far have seen four of them - three on patrol #1 of Med about CN25 grid. 1 was that last one mentioned above nasty coastal ship - biggest merchant deck gun I have ever seen. That thing looked like it could launch a shell from Berlin to Paris

I've sunk Aussie, Kiwi, Canadian, Indian and just about every other Allied country thats going. But my all time favourites are the yanks, I always get big arsed convoys with them and its easy pickings

Cdre Gibs I did a direct cut and paste to the folders with the flag patch you setup for me....

This time I saw those blue colors (field) and the the 7 point star - my recognition manual is still red for both NZ and Australian merchant vessels....but I am thinking this was an Australian merchant:

Looked like this; http://gc.stud.tue.nl/oz/photos/maps...Flag.sized.jpg

Does this sound right... :hmm:

If its still wrong could it be an overwrite by SH3 commander or IUb?

TIA

Nope, you should see a red duster, not the blue ensign (that pic is the Aussie Flag btw). Ok 2 things to look out for.

1)
My zip tool has a sometimes habit of putting a folder into a folder, so it looks like this :

Flag patch/Data/Data/Libary/Flags.dat

When it should be :

Flag patch/Data/Libary/Flags.dat

Make sure that you didnt copy an paste the Data/Data set up into the game. It should be just the 1 data folder.

2)
Even tho I said you should be able to do this while on patrol it may not have taken properly. After your next DOCK save goto the museum and load up the Aussie and Kiwi ships and check the flags, if they are red instead of blue then all is well. If not redo the patch and make sure that the above double folder bit isn't in your game and reload museum and check again. It should be all sweet.

(while in the museum take a gander at the new plane markings as well )
