Andrea Doria... The name is familliar.
In deed.In Italy he is very well known. He was initially infantry commander, partecipated in the Genoese rebellion in Corsica and in the attack against the French garisson of Genoa at about 1500.At some point he passed into the navy, where he was more successful as pirate hunter and had some repeated cat and mouse encouters with Harreydin Barbarossa,a famous Ottoman admiral (or pirate depending on the point of view) who was plundering the Italian coastal cities. At the end he gained many distinctions and noble titles. At the beginning, the name Andrea Doria was to be given to the new Italian carrier, but for some reason they changed their minds and gave the Doria to the Horizon and the carrier will be named Cavour.

yeah its pretty much the same as the daring

http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/horizon/

but the daring doesnt carry torps as it carries more missiles and room for more if needed, the daring also uses the mk8 4.5'' naval gun which uses the new HE shell for an effective range of 27.5km compared to the 76mm installed on the horizon that have an effective range of 16km and a lower damage rating. the 76's do have a much higher rate of fire though but they are pretty much useless for shore bombarding.

they also use different radar systems as the uk were concerned about the radar being blocked so the more versitile sampson radar is used on the 45

6 45's have been ordered with 8 the target by 2014.

The Stockholm rammed the Andrea Doria, not the other way around. Therefore, it is not crazy to commemorate the Italian admiral once more.

We should say no more boats with the name Stockholm...stuck home! :rotfl:

Wow!

She looks almost featureless. No textures and minimal bumps and bulges on the upper decks and towers. Is it just me, or does it look like exactly like a videogame design for a low res model?
:hmm:

Yes. Very beautiful. I'd love to see what she has in the way of sensors. Is she going to use the ASTER's with the PAAMS systems for air defence?

The rumor is that they did not have the software to make higher polygons models...

Apparently, they didn't hire the Silent Hunter 3 development team to design their ship...
