Default too dark at night

I have encounterd a lot of ships at night lately, and although the lookouts pick them up I cannot see them at all unless within 500 meters and then just barely. Not enough to Id or get angle on the bow, etc, . I can barely see the bow wake and thats about all, even on a clear night with a full moon. On my other computer I was able to adjust brightness and contrast but on the one I am using now, I have both maxed out and still not much improvement. There must be some other adjustment to make, but How? I took some screen shots and brightened them up with a photo editor and all the detail was there, if I could only do it in the game. Any ideas? Thanks! Joe S

Click on the "Ocean Madness" link in my signature.

Problem solved. Cheers!

You may also have to adjust your monitor gamma settings. I use ocean madness(it does help quite a bit) but my screen is still to dark at times. alt+tab out of the game and adjust your controls till you find a level that works. No way to do that through game controls.

Yep, play with your gamma settings if your graphics card allows it.

hey...it's supposed to be dark!!!

why would any sub captain want a full moon out at night...

just shoot off a starshell or two in the direction of the blighter...

then, fire for effect till you get a good range on him... then just keep the deck gun level and maintain firing till he lights up the night for you

I obtained good vision at night but i was enforced to extract textures and edit them with photoshop.

Plus i obtain them mixing or blending some diferent files from diferent mods.

I some momment i obtain a so clear night vision, but it give problems i dont remember with what :hmm:

I need to retouch it and obtain a non too clear night but with no problems in another situations.

say to me wich file you need and i can share my files with you if you want them.

I obtain this night vision blending files, but the problem was i losse the clouds, may be the very clear vision is due to the clouds lack.

I need to reject this and found another settings with clear night and clouds present.

Hi redwine,
The results you are getting are what I should be getting, dark but still able to see with some moonlight or starlight. My computer is at least three years old and I am told that an older monitor will start to loose some brightness as it gets older, I suspect that is my problem. I tried to adjust the gamma settings but dont know enough about it. Brightness and contrast are already set at 100%. Joe S

Does ocean madness complement the atmosphere mod or is one included in the other?

Yes, Ocean Madness compliments the Atmosphere Mod, but each mod functions on its own... Meaning they aren't dependent on each other. You can have one without the other, if you like.

Do u know if the atmosphere mod will overwrite the Ail skymod because i really like his day sky textures, however it looks as though the night sky is better on your mod.

Actually, AIL skymod comes included with the Atmosphere Mod.

Read the credits on the first page of this thread. I have a detailed account of every file included:

Remember that the gamma correction of the graphic cards is important.

I have the clear 16 km version from markimov with a increased gamma values, 1,47 in the drivers, and i have a very good balance play vs realism.

Don't forget to upgrade it with Ocean Madness. The nighttime is just as bright, but it looks ten times better than Atmosphere Mod alone.
