Default which mods to install for newbies?

Well i just got SH3 for X-mas as I have been looking forward to starting to play this game while I give IL2 pacific fighters a break.

Anyways I have been browsing the forums for awhile and I gotta say wow there is a lot of Mods for the game,

I have downloaded but not installed:

SH 1.4b update
JGSME
RUB 1.45.7z
Harbour_Traffic_147_for__RuB_145.7z
IUB v102

Ail sky mod V2
Ail dials mod
Ail particles mod
Ail Wake mod
Ail highres Moon mod
flagmod

not sure if i should install theses:
Integrated orders mod v1.01(up)
or SH3commander v2.2

these files look good? I would install them in this order also.

I heard that the RUB mod is for high realistic settings and would probably be way over my head to start with as a beginner? (even tho it seems there is more mods included with it that improve graphics and gameplay would you suggst downloading it?)

also I havent instaled SH3 yet but i heard it doesnt Support 1600*1200 resloution??

is there a workaround for this?

any other suggestions you guys have for a new player would be most appreciated?

You can get SH3 to run as high as your video card and monitor will support if you use the "dx9 resolutions" mod. I use 1280x1024, 4 AA & 4 AF and have zero jags without having a slide show (ATI X800XT PE).

You two basic mods are RUB 1.45 and IUB 1.02. RUB 1.45 concentrates on "Realism" where IUB 1.02 (has RUB 1.44 incorporated into it) also has the additional "eye candy". IUB 1.02 also has a lot of your other mods you mentioned already included (read the IUB Readme and you will see all the mods included).

HT 1.47 has the standalone or RUB 1.45 version, but IUB 1.02 only has the HT 1.46 included with even a heavier harbor traffic option.

JSME and 1.4b are manditory to even start. With JSME, you can add or subtract the mods you want to try (just never in the middle of a patrol unless you want to lose that saved career) and see what you like.

I started out with RUB 1.44, upped to IUB 1.02 when it came out and have gone back to RUB 1.45 until IUB 1.03 comes out. The reason that I am using a modified RUB 1.45 at the moment is that is has some things IUB 1.02 does not have and HT 1.47 works with RUB 1.45 too.

Good luck on your new adventures.

Patch 1.4
JSGME
IUB 1.2 or RUB 1.45
SH3 commander

In that order.

That should get you going with the good stuff. You can parse the forums and find others you want at your leasure.

Definatly patch to SH3 1.4b, and use JSGME to enable your mods.

I would play at least a few patrols in the plain game to get a hang of it, and you wont know if you like the changes in mods if you don't know what the mod mods :hmm:

SH3 Commander doesn't really change anything in-game too drasticly, though it will let you costomize a lot of settings to your choosing. Commander is a seperate program, not a 'mod' as such, so you wont need to install it with JSGME. It lets you see a great display of your players career history, change settings (you choose time in base between patrols, crew transfers, deck gun reload time, etc)

I love RuB, but I would still recommend you have a few missions in the stock game before trying any of these type of mods.

There's also plenty of graphical mods to choose from, just pick the ones you like the look of.

You come from IL2? I have just played SH3 for about three months, now i'm a bit bored so I'm going back to IL2! (Where the battleships have better graphics than in SH3!

Don't forget Stieblers Sensor mod. This mod fixed the ranges of the radar detection devices. It will save your boot and your crew from sudden death

The latest release of SH3 Commander is 2.3, available via one of the links in my sig block. Go for the full release if you want random ship skins. The lite release excludes the skins. Full SH3 Commander readme can be found here. It's a perfect companion to RUb or IUB.
