Default What shall I do now?

I'm in a serious tight spot right now!

First I installed the 1.4b patch. My career went to hell..*sigh* As soon as the "initilizing" screen went away it crashed..
ok, no big prob I thought. I can always start a new one.

So I did and it worked fine. Took my little IIA out to Scapa flow for some action and then it was time to make dinner. I saved and made dinner.
Next day I launched it and it started fine and it ran good until I took a peek in the scope...wham!! Back to windows!

Now I can't play because it crashes everytime I try to look through the scope!

What shall I do? I'm no poweruser of computers really..

Any ideas?

Post your computer's tech specs, especially relating to your video card and video drivers.

And here are the specs:

2Ghz Cpu, 512mb ram, Geforce3Ti200 64mb, lots of HD.

Videodriver:
version 8185

DX 9.0c

Should be all right?

My guess is that there's something wrong with the patch..
Maybe there's some ini-file or other that can be tweeked?

Before you do anything to drastic, you could always simply try uninstalling your SH3 and re-installing again. This time, throw on the 1.4b patch before you do anything else, and see if that works.

I'm guessing that will fix everything. If not..... uhh, yeah, come back here. :rotfl:

Are there any known crashbug related to the scope in 1.4b?

This is the first I've heard of it. 1.4b is a good patch, you definately need it.

Thanks Marhkimov! I guess it's one of old patches that's bugging out in conjuction with the new patch.
I'll try to reinstall it and then we'll see.

Does my saves remain when I uninstall? It's in "My documents" right?

When you uninstall, there's an option that you can select if you want to keep your saves.

Yes, it is in the "my documents" folder.

Now I have uninstalled and reinstalled it again. I've patched it with the 1.4b patch and it still crashes when I look through the scope. I even got a bluescreen of death!
It's something with the graphics, I'm sure of it. The Bluescreen said it was something with the nv4disp.dll.

The card I have is a Geforce3Ti200. Now I know it sucks so you don't have to tell me. Anyhow it doesn't support Pixelshaders according to SH3s installmentprogram.. However it hasn't stop me from playing it. It has worked as a charm before!

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I have a faint memory that one could disable pixelshading within SH3 with a press of a button.. maybe even on the keyboard

Any bright?

When you uninstalled SH3 did you delete all residual files left in your Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII folder? For if you at any stage have installed mods, there's every likelyhood that some of the mod files will remain after uninstallation and reinstallation, thus potentially "reinfecting" your game.

In fact, as part of the uninstallation process, I would even rename your save game folder and start completely fresh. If all is then fine, move your save games back in again and see how it goes.

BTW I have a Geforce3 Ti200 (driver version 56.72 - anything newer is not necessary for this old card) running SH3 v1.4b no problems.

JScones.
Interesting, indeed. Yet I didn't install any mods at all so they shouldn't interfere. I didn't install in the same catalog as before, infact I believe I deleted the old one.
But I'll try to rename my saves and start a completly new one. Little sad on the renown though..*sigh*
