I was looking in the SubSim news and saw this article:
Quote:
Didn't the one and only Papa-class SSGN suffer an accident and sink in 1988 in the Norwegian Sea?

Nope, I think that you're thinking of the Mike, another one off that sank in the Norwegian Sea in 1988, not the Papa.

There were such incidents with two Charlie I boats: K-313 and K-429. Both accidently sunk when were at base, but later both were raised.
There were no such incidents with Papa. Though, K-162 (later K-222) suffered a moderate reactor accident. But didn't sink. Papa also was nicknamed "Golden Fish" - the same as Alfa. It was unofficial nickname given to any boat that is modern, but expencive and difficult in service. |
