None of us here seem to have any inhibitions in this respect, but then again few of us here can be labelled 'religious' or so it seems...
Why on earth would any Jewish person want to play a Nazi U-Boot commander and even promote the game ? Is there a special Muslim interest in U-Boot sims ? Do muslims like Nazi-stories ? And what is the exact message when a Christian dresses up as and thus identifies himself publicly with a WW2 U-Boot Kaleun ? Food for thought :hmm: |

But here it is again, with some additional information about the Avatar. As far as my avatar is concerned, I disliked the grayish kind of pictures that come with the higher ranks as much as the faces on them. I thought I could do better and ordered a cap(tains cap), also to have some fun during the Big Intercontinental Meeting. Perhaps I had the thing on for 5 minutes in total, just to show and have some pictures shot. I also pinned the eagle so low that the Swastika is invisable. No pictures of me with a Swastika after what happened to Prince Harry. ![]() The leather jacket is an old US Army Air Force A-4 jacket, which I like a lot. I don't like to dress in Nazi clothes... I'm quite pleased with the final result. Playing the game has nothing to do with me having any sympathy for Nazism, as will be clear to most by now, but with me having both an interest in (WW II) history and admiration for a challenging game. And of course being a bit crazy like most of us... Usually I prefer to play the Allied side in games, but I'm quite willing make an exception for SH III. So what is the exact message I'm giving? Dunno..... Does being a Christian have anything to do with all this? Dunno..... :hmm: (Well, at least I expect forgiveness from God for sinking virtual ships!)

I could not think of me being proud to sink a unarmed surface ship, but thats just me.
It's one of the the reasons I play DW instead of SH III. |

Answer to your second question. I'm not sure what you mean by Nazi stories? I have always had a strong interest in modern history for the simple reason that events such as WWII have had a tremendous influence in the shaping of the world in which we currently live. I would also add that many of my Grandparents and Great Uncles fought against the Nazi's during the Second World War. Currently I am trying to back up onto electronic archive my surviving Grandpa's flight plans, maps, and flight log book. He was a navigator in a Mosquito (Mozzy) during the Second World War. I also hope to make a trip down to Cornwall and visit his pilot during that time for a bit of a chat, not to mention to thank the man for getting my Pa safely back onto the ground after every mission that they flew together some of which involved flying to Berlin! You say food for thought. What are your thoughts 6pack? Indulge us if you will?

a WW2 subsim is simpler than modern one. That's one reason I play Sh3.
And It's a game for fek's sake. Don't want to play as u=boat - don't. Noone's forcing you, and please keep religion out of it. In Sh3, nazi's are the equivalent of the 'bad guys' fighting a lost battle. They could have called them NOD and GDI or whatever the names were in the CC, but that wouldn't sell as well, et al being realistic time periods... That's it. |

Frankly, I feel sorry for people who can't distinguish reality and simulation/game. As much as "suspension of disbelief" is important to our hobby, self-delusion is not part of that.
Religion never quite stopped actual wars - forget virtual ones... As for me - what's a person who could be described politically as 'far-left pacifist' (me, in case that's unclear) doing playing a military game - whether in the role of a Nazi U-boat captain or American pilot in Iraq or something? My interest has been humanist foremost, to understand what people in all sorts of situations may have encountered; technical secondarily. In no way do I espouse the beliefs of the characters I'm portraying - be they religious, political or in regards to war and peace. :hmm: |

![]() What is attractive to ANY human in U-Boot simulations? 1.- The competition against a machine or another human 2.- The ability to learn, admire & respect the difficulties some humans went through when they gave their lifes for their country. A way of learning how humans can survive and live in impossible conditions when required to. 3.- The chances of relationship and friendhsip with many people from different countries & cultures with a common hobby, through internet Wondering what jews, muslims or christians can find attractive in U-Boot sims is not different to wondering about what truck drivers, physicians, McDonald's employees, lawyers, cooks, or painters can find attractive in U-Boot sims, or any other sim. It adds/substracts nothing to the matter. Or do you eventually think that a catholic or jew can not have a pleasure playing the game "Prince of Persia"?? ![]()
