Default Question about torpedoes!

Hey all,

My question is this. Do all the torpedoes available have the exact same payload?? It seems that if I I hit something with a T1 or a T2 it has the same effect(depending on where you hit it ofcourse). I'm not far enough into the war to have the FAT's etc etc .. but i'm just wondering .. a link would be nice if sh3 modeled these numbers.

I'm pretty sure all of the warheads have the same amount of explosives.

Some people might claim that T1's are more powerful than T2's, but it's probably just a placebo effect... They think it blows up better, therefore it does blow up better... but not really.

from Uboat.net:

Quote:
All the German U-boat torpedoes were 53.3cm (21 inch) in diameter and had a warhead of 280kg (The T5 had 274kg).
Link for more details--->http://uboat.net/technical/torpedoes.htm

Unterseebootwaffe site gives different warheads but I think some might be wrong. Who knows-->http://www.dataphone.se/~ms/ubootw/welcom.htm

It is hard to imagine how where they able to put 500 Kg's in T II (G7e), even tho the torp runned with batteries, wich were really big and heavy themselvesl

More info from here. --->http://www.ubootarchiv.de/waffen/tor...ocation=uboote
This site gives you 300Kg for the size of the warhead.

and one more--->http://www.uboataces.com/weapon-torpedo.shtml

Not sure but I'd go for the 280 Kg's...

What's the preferences for torpedoes? I actually like the TIs set to "fast". Despite the steam wake, at short range they get there in a hurry and the added speed seems to improve my chances of scoring a hit.

So far I feel the same that you do Pat. Set a TI to fast and that means they have less time to get out of it's path if they see it. The same cannot be said for DD's tho .. throw a TI at them and when they see the wake they go full speed and can get out of it's path easily.

I did get to play with some TIV's before I accidentaly deleted my career and had to start over .. they don't always go after the ship that you want them to if in a convoy .. but they hit something every time

Biggest difference to me is the bearing to target at which i fire off the fish.

WIth a T1, against a 9 knot target at 3000 yards (give or take) ill fire around bearing 345 or 15, depending on his direction of travel

BUt with a T2 or T3? Now i gotta shove those fish out of the tubes at around bearing 340, or 20 a hair later then that and they'll fall astern of the target. Blech.

Much harder to shoot fast moving targets with slow fish. I took a destroyer out doing 25 knots once, i think i shoved that fish out the door at bearing 310 If i remember correctly!

But slighly back on topic.. hmmm what file is it where one can edit the payload? I htink i want to add about 40 more pounds to the payload

Germany wasn't the only country in ww2 whose navy/submarine arm suffered from badly designed systems in their torpedoes. USA had similar difficulties against japanese. Surely they (germans) didn't lose the war because of this. The problems with the torpedo pistols, depth keeping fins etc. were solved pretty much after the Norway campaing. It is strange how it is possible that the torpedoes were so unrelieable in the early part of the war.

I rarely have any duds in the game since I use only the impact pistol and don't set the torpedo speed to fast (this was banned until mid war).

Edit: hmm. the earlier reply I'm pointing here just disappeared
