Default c class destroyer making me nervous

I thought i would begin a career in 1943 using RUB1.44 and commander 2 . Having never commanded a uboat in 1943 i dont know what to expect . I left port and after a week i have found a convoy . Leading the convoy is a c class destroyer about 3500mts away from me . I watched him for a while with the periscope as he cruised at 7 knots . I had my engines off as i would not like to attract his attention . He has stopped . 0 Knots . Whats he doing . Maybe he has broken down or something . Engines ahead slow . Ready to fire torpedo . 3000mts , 2000 mts . 1000mts . OMG he,s started up again . Now hes heading straight for me . ALaaaaaaarm.

The lead DD will stop and wait for the convoy to catch up. Unlikely in real life but in SH3 that is what they do. As long as he is not pointed at you or close, he will not see you on sonar but would hear you if you were not on silent running.
If the convoy hits a waypoint and goes all confused he must wait or would be in Liverpool before the merchants past Ireland!

In 1943 its Da plane, da plane, one must fear the most!!

prolly people were talking in your bow torpedo room, or someone dropped something. The destroyer prolly just either 1: stopped to let the convoy catch up or 2: listening.. for you

So....what happened, Glenno?
Ok this is what happened. I crashed dived to get some depth and then at about 35mts i swung left and went ahead slow silent running . Dropped those decoy things and then was depthcharged at about 50mts . Depthcharges were close but no damage . I kept diving until i reached 120 mts . Once there i had an irrational thought . Periscope depth , ahead slow , load torpedoes . Im not letting these liberty ships get away .

As i was saying before , i slowly raised to periscope depth and manage to fire 4 torps into 2 C2s (2 each) . Unfortunately they are only crippled . You can see them in my screenshot . Now i have been detected and a warship is heading straight towards me again . Alaaaaaaaaarm , crash dive .

DDs escorting a convoy will often do the sprint & drift.
1. It lets them listen on hydophones
2. It lets the convoy catch up.
Then they will usually start up, make a turn and use sonar.
Zig-zag a few times and then stop again to drift, then repeat this process again. Its best to give them a wide berth when stalking
convoys...
