Default I never quite got a straight answer...

DO Planes ever Strafe the Uboat with GUNFIRE?! Just today on my first patrol out i was shadowing a c2 for like 3 hours real time trying to get into a decent firing position and doing the calculations myself for the first time. Well while i finally figured her speed and course, and adjusted my boat to it, i didnt realize i was pretty close, and being surfaced the boat spotted me and must have called coastal command. Out of nowhere while getting ready to get into firing position i heard its engines and panicked trying to look where it was coming from! It missed waaaaay aft of my boat and just flew off. It was a spitfire!! So i know it had guns!! Why didnt it strafe my uboat! It could have totally shot up my panicked crew?! Anyway this angers me so much! How can they not add machine gun fire to planes? Only depth charges and bombs? Sooo lame.. This is probably my biggest dissapointment. Anyway sorry for the long story, but do planes ever strafe you or what!

Planes do strafe the U boat sometimes. I've had damage from gunfire while diving.

I have lost gun crews to gun fire before.

Spitfires? I have seen no strafing Hurricanes only in the game.
But the Sunderlands and the B24 bomb and strafe!

There are NO Spitfires in the game, only Hurricanes and they're quite different things. I've had Hurris strafing me, especially near Gibraltar. Sunderlands and Liberators do it on regular basis, PBY's also I think. Don't know about others.

Hurricanes pack a tad heavier punch than Spitfires, IIRC.

I had a Hurricane pilot that must've been a conscientious objector or something a few days ago. He bounced me and before I could maneuver he flew RIGHT over my boot, aft to fore at low altitude. He was in perfect strafing position and never pulled the trigger. I decided to fight it out with him since it had been a while since I saw action. He made multiple perfect passes over my boat but never strafed me or dropped ordinance. He might've been on CAP and was out of ammo, vectoring in buddies, but another Hurri showed up and played wingman...I have no idea why they didn't drop me.

What year what If you ask Hurris, the last time I was bounced by them was back in spring ´42. Was charging batteries and the first recon plane didn't fire but the consecutive groups waves all did. Not much of a damage, flak gun damaged a couple of times but mainly I was worried about the crew. Can't remember if they strafe you around Loch Ewe and surroundings, since it's been so long I've been there. The bigger planes all seem to fire at you, all the time.

Swampfox, I'd guess that Hurricane had a wasserbomben (depthcharges) load, and as it seems, planes with that weapon dont attack unless you are submerged or submerging. You can read that info around on other threads, many times it's safer to withstand their first run on the surface and submerge when they are preparing next run.

But beware of Boeings, they seem to always attack and carry an amazing load...
