I am a German, and believe me: The very very very very last thing I would whistle in the shower (or anyplace else) would be the German National Anthem!

I agree, it totally sucks...

But I´m 99.9% sure that Drebbel meant "Muß i' denn zum Städtele hinaus" and not our lousy anthem.

There is no "Nazi Germany" version of the German anthem, the forbidden "Deutschland über alles" part is much older.

I'm researching a story about Erich Hartmann, the number one air ace in history, at work lately. I was JUST noticing yesterday that, without fail, every time I am reading about anything German I hear "Deutschland Uber Alles" in my head, plain as day.

Is there something wrong with me?
