Default Which mods?

So, I just registered to this site and decided to make a own topic...
I have been playing SH3 for a while now with the Real U-Boat Mod. Now when the newer version of this mod has been released I wonder if it is possible to keep your old saves or if you are forced to start a new campaign? I also wonder if the old version is to be removed before installation of a newer one?
And last, is there other mods which could be useful/nice to have? I heard that the new SH3 had new hi-res textures, so I wonder if there is a free mod that includes hi-res textures?
Thank you, I hope my writing didnt confuse anyone...

If some one has similar questions, be free to ask in the same topic.

You can keep your old saves. Just return to port before you install the new version, do not apply the mod mid-patrol.

Yes, you should do that. Use JSGME to install and uninstall mods:

Check this page:
http://www.theavonlady.org/thesh3faq/

Look for "The Avon Lady's list of installed SH3 mods".

Also visit http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/.

And the "Silent Hunter III Community Manual" for general informations:

Ok, there seems to be several options. I think that I reinstall the game and start using the JSGME (I hope it is simple to use), because I didnt create any back-ups when I installed the first RUb version.

One more thing... Should you install the JSGME in the SH3 folder or as a stand-alone application?

I can start thinking of getting ALL mods if I should at least get one working...
So, I tried the JSGME. I reinstalled the game, updated to 1.4b, downloaded JSGME and placed it in the Silent Hunter III-folder, ran it once so that MODS-folder was created, downloaded RuB 1.45 and unzipped it to desktop, placed it to the MODS-folder in sub-folder Real U-Boat 1.45 which I made myself, started JSGME and enbled the RuB1.45 by drawing it to "activated"-list. Then I started SH3 but the mod didnt start...

So veterans? I seek your council, what is wrong? Should I download earlier RuB versions first or what?
