Researchers from the Russian Geographical Society explored the bottom of the La Perouse Strait, where an American submarine that sank during World War II had been discovered. The Maritime Heritage project aims to investigate the fate of the fallen allies. The La Perouse Strait, a narrow sea corridor between Sakhalin and Japan, was the site where the American submarine Wahoo crashed in 1943. In 2006, Russian researchers discovered the submarine. On May 23, the crew of the Manatee and Russian scientists deployed a deep-sea robot to explore the site. This robot can dive to depths of 3,000 meters and is equipped with advanced tools for various underwater tasks.
