March 1942. Just survived the worst longest patrol ever. I left PH and ran towards Tokyo. As I neared the coast I had to dive to avoid destroyers; at 200 feet the Drum crashed dived to the bottom! Tried again, same result. No damage on sub.
Went back to PH save and after 200nm after passing Midway, planes by the squadron full started hounding me. I had shot down 5 or 6 when I gave up, they were everywhere. I dived and waited until night where I was at least able to get some headway. But the planes were not long in showing up again. As soon as a day on surface and nightfall I managed to reach the Jap coast. I used up all my torps on a large convoy in the Bay and began my journey back to PH. Right on cue once in the Pacific there were the planes again shot a few and dived. None of the planes had bombs just MG fire. After a whole hour trying to get to Midway. I made it but this time US planes were all over the place. It was March 1942. Also some of the ships in the Bay took up to 4 torps (with Webbys US +3) too. Whenever I get the Drum things start going wrong and once week or so ago, when dropping an agent off, as soon as I launched the raft, CRASH! No wonder I am on BP tablets. ![]() ![]() ![]()
