Here we go again... Is it time to end "No Knock" warrants. It seems any situation that gives each side only seconds to assess and make decisions is prone to failure, but giving time to a hardened criminal often ends up in shootouts or hostage situations. We had one not too long ago where police knocked with a search warrant and the man took his family hostage and before the day was over he killed his wife, 2 kids, family dog and then himself.
Police here did enter first with a key and did loudly identify themselves for about 7 secs before kicking the couch this man was on. It does appear he remained asleep while they were yelling and was startled awake with the kick of the couch and grabbed his gun in a second that appeared to be on a stool right beside him. He was not on the warrant, had no criminal record and was a legal CCP holder. A lot of people just don't have time to wake up and comprehend, hard sleepers, hungover, on prescription or illegal drugs, etc.
