Hi all,
I'm looking to install NYGM to try after years of playing GWX. I like that it focuses on improving core gameplay and realism of harvesting tonnage, seeing as that's 90% of the game! And I can live without the nice eye candy of GWX if the core game is entertaining enough. The documents for NYGM say that it doesn't really focus on scripted encounters and focuses almost exclusively on the merchant hunting side of things. Improved convoys, escorts, ASW patrols etc. My question is, does this mean it gets rid of task forces as well? One of my favorite things about SH3 vanilla and GWX too was occasionally dropping on a battleship or an aircraft carrier, outside of a scripted encounter. Just a random task force reported by BDu. Are these encounters still in the game? Can you still find the odd capital ships dotted around? Or are they all removed in favour of the random convoys and merchants? Cheers, BritTorrent |

A quick look in the .rnd and .scr campaign files will answer your question though. Fwiw, I haven't really noticed much difference between NYGM and GWX in terms of "realism", etc.. They both play very similar.

Thanks for that John. I'll have a poke around the files.
Which mod do you prefer ultimately, seeing as you've played a lot of them? |

NYGM is a bit harder to play than GWX, because of the nice negative buoyancy added to submarines, and ships are a bit harder to find also.
But that’s only my opinion as I’ve played both too. ![]()

AOD ![]() They both do a great job replicating the subject (within SH3's limitations) far as I'm concerned. May sound like a fence riding cop out, but that's honestly how I see it.
