Default Long time NFL Coach Don Shula passes away at 90

Don Shula, The NFL's winningest coach in NFL History has passed away. Don Shula is the only NFL coach to to have a perfect season. Don Shula also won 2 Superbowls and was inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Quote: "Don Shula was the patriarch of the Miami Dolphins for 50 years," the team said in a statement. "He brought the winning edge to our franchise and put the Dolphins and the city of Miami in the national sports scene."

Shula coached in six Super Bowls during his career. In addition to his two wins, his Colts lost Super Bowl III, while his Dolphins teams came up short in Super Bowls VI, XVII and XIX.

"Being in his presence was always a special opportunity to rub shoulders with true greatness," said Jerry Jones, whose Dallas Cowboys beat the Dolphins in Super Bowl VI (albeit long before Jones bought the team).
"His name and his legacy will serve to inspire all of the very best virtues of sportsmanship, competition and achievement in coaches for generations to come. There will never be another one like him."
His 347 career wins remain tops in the NFL. The Chicago Bears' George Halas and the New England Patriots' Bill Belichik are the only other members of the 300-win club.

Don Shula was famous for drafting players and developing and implementing coordination to take advantage of his players talents. Quarterback Dan Marino was a prime example of this philosophy.

Rest in peace Don and thanks for the great football.

I admit to knowing very little regarding NFL but there is a name I recall seeing over the years.

RIP Sir

Seems hard to believe that Don Shula was 90. I'm getting old, I remember having a Miami Dolphins raincoat during 2nd grade in 1973. I think the average age of our population is going to drop some this year.

While Don Shula always coached rival teams like the Miami Dolphins, His teams were always well coached and Don was well respected. Don Shula also helped develop other coaches like Chuck Noll who went on to win 4 Superbowls.

Unlike a lot of coaches today, Don Shula was a gentleman both on and off the field.
