David Ogden Stiers Passed away after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
David rose to prominence and fame playing Doctor / Surgeon Major Charles Emerson Winchester III in the acclaimed series, M*A*S*H. While joining the other actors in the sixth season, David became an integral part in the continued success of the series. Stiers also received two Emmy nominations for his work on "M.A.S.H." David starred on the show from 1977 until its landmark final episode in 1983, seen by 106 million people. In the series, David's character loved classical music, using it as a buffer against the carnage he witnessed from a front row seat as he portrayed a surgeon. David Introduced these and other attributes from his real life persona as in real life, he was also a classical music aficionado. David also played the French horn and Piano. Quote : Music[edit] Stiers was the associate conductor for the Newport (Oregon) Symphony Orchestra and the Ernest Bloch Music Festival.[11] He also guest-conducted over 70 orchestras around the world, including the Oregon Mozart Players, the Vancouver Symphony, the Virginia Symphony, the Oregon Chamber Players, the Yaquina (Oregon) Chamber Orchestra, as well as orchestras in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Ogden_Stiers Quote : It is with deep regret and sadness we report the passing of a dear member of the Newport Symphony family, David Ogden Stiers. David has been a guiding light for the NSO since its founding as well as serving as its resident conductor. http://newportsymphony.org/about/david-ogden-stiers/ Rest in peace David and thanks for the laughs. |

Sad to hear. He was a nice change from Frank Burns. Some great moments by a talented actor. Here's my favorite:
